I have to hire a tux for a wedding, does anybody have a rough idea of how much it is to hire one from Blacktie?

I would say 100, or maybe a bit more if you need the shoes and shirt as well. Might be a good time to price one for yourself as well, it only really takes two events for it to be worth your while.

If you're in Dublin, I'd recommend this crowd: http://www.astonformal.com/

They'll alter the suit properly, and you're less likely to get a debs tux that's been puked over.

if you look around you can probably buy a tux cheaper than rent one.

My bro-in-law just bought one from Tesco believe it or not, and it looks just as good as most rentals. It cos €60 for the suit, and €10 for the wing-tipped shirt.
Another avenue is the tux and suit warehouse. They have a place in town and one in balbriggan. My dad bought a suit there recently for my wedding and my hubby got his shirt and waistcoat - very reasonable for good quality. When you think a suit hire will be about €100 and you have to go travelling to take it back, and perhaps you could buy a cheapish one from tesco for €60 or a better quality one for about €150, then I think in the long run owning one is more cost effective.

If the wedding is after xmas you might get one in the sales in Debenhams or next. A friend bought one in debenhams sale last year - a designer on (can't remember who though), originally priced at over €300, he got it for €120! bargain!

+1 on this. I know they did have the shirts and bowties on Pennys for €9 a few weeks ago in Swords.
I think they had the suits as well and they weren't expensive. Obviously its from Pennys and might not be the best of quality but lets face it after a few beers the jacket will be off, along with the bowtie!

Weren't Penny's doing them for €50. Not bad looking either. I got a new one from Black Tie, and there's not much of a difference between the two.

    Thanks for the replies.

    Just a quick update:

I went into Blacktie and the one they gave me to try on, and there smallest was massive on. Made me look smaller than I am and kinda stupid! It was €59 for suit, shirt and bow-tie.

So thats where I am so far. Here is some more info on the reason why it didn't fit and my location.
Firstly, I'm in Waterford, nowhere near Dublin and wont get a chance to get down to Dublin anytime soon. I could make Carlow / Wexford / Kilkenny if they had them in.

I would buy one if it was cheap enough, but with Christmas coming, don't want to spend too much on one.

OK, now to the suit. Basically, I'm tiny! I have a suit and its a 34 Slim and its the ONLY suit that fits me. I have no shoulders and am about 5ft 7", so it can't be too long. Blacktie basically said the smallest though do (or the one in Waterford, not sure about other stores) was a 34 Regular. And the regular was still too big. He said it was fitted and tailored or something, but as far as I could see, it just hung down like a rag on me?

Do you think I would be able to get a slim fitted one anywhere? Even to be honest... I hate to admit it... but I've aften got away with (for shirts anyway) a large boy, 15 / 16 year old?
To describe how small / skinny I am... Bascally, when I go clothes shopping, the only place I can get clothes that fit me is Top Man, because they do the XXS size! its not because I want tight fitting, its because anything other than XXS or XS hangs off me. I'm just under 9st

Also to answer another poster. The date for the wedding is NYE, not after, so would not get a cheapie. I know its very last minute, but only got the invite about a week ago... All very hectic now getting this suit.

One more question, would I get away with a simple black suit with the funny shirt and bow tie or is the tuxedo different than a simple black suit?

    Thanks,
    DG.

Wow, didn't realise how far off I was with my price. No wonder it was as cheap for me to buy!

Yeah, it's normally cut a little differently - buttons are different, and the trousers normally have a shiny black stripe down the sides of the legs. You might get away with it though. I didn't when I tried the same thing.

Blacktie are shìte if you need anything that isn't in very standard proportions. Get out the golden pages and see if there are any other rental places that have proper tailors that will alter a suit for you properly, rather than just throwing a few stitches in the hem of the pants.

Here's an Irish site that makes them based on your measurements, but personally I couldn't imagine getting a suit done over the web:

You will totally get away with a regular black suit. My OH bought one in Pennys along with a shirt for €4 and we got a dickie bow also. The whole thing came to €50 and on the day of the wedding he looked no different to any of the other lads. It was absolutely fine. Also as another poster mentioned, the jacket came of practically every lad during the meal and from then on it was just guys in black trousers and white shirts, some even took the dickie bow off too.
The only thing is the size, I dont know how small Pennys go but definitely check it out.

yeah, they were the ones I mentioned. They start at €50. My BIL's was €65.
At least if you get one in Tesco for €50, you still have a few quid to get it altered a bit if need be? Its not breaking the bank.

I know the tux trs sometimes have a satin stripe down the side, but not always as not everyone likes this. So in that case you could get a pair of nice black trousers you will wear again, and then just get a tux jacket in Penny's or Tesco. Just make sure they are the same shade of black!

saw a sign outside blacktie in Drumcondra a couple of days back - suit sale 99€

Also CT2's in Blanch Village - you'll get a rental tux for less than €100

and depending on your personal style you could wear the jacket again - its very in at the moment to wear a tux jacket with open collar shirt and jeans! :)
