Car accident

I hope somebody can help me. My husband drives a hackney cab and was involved in an accident last week. He was able to drive home and the car is working fine, however the bodywork looks bad. The other guy was found to be at fault and the repairs quote was 4400. We have been told that the car will be classed as an economic writeoff. We are ok with that but to buy a new car and get a cab nct will take 6 weeks. This is my husbands busiest time coming up to christmas and he will lose loads of business. We are wondering can he continue to drive and then sort out car after christmas period. If he was stopped by guards would his nct still be valid. Thanks for any replies
