By fast I mean hardcore punk rock fast, CIV/Strike anywhere/Minor threat/NOFX fast, example! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CYl-3S79JIY

By bass drum I mean SINGLE KICK PEDAL cause im not gonna cheat and i dont play metal...

By technique and help i mean any tips on them double strokes please?? Any certain height i should be sitting? distance from the pedal? I play on an iron cobra powerglide pedal. I can get it going to a fast enough pace on a good day but sadly not as accurately or as extremely fast as i like!

Anything would be appreciated cheers :D

Theres a real good technique that I use from a guy named Steve Smith.

    It goes like this.

First you practice with your heel then you practice with your toes.

    Heel>>>

Rest the ball of your foot on the pedal. The ball does not leave the board.
Using your ankle as much as possible move your heel up and down.
    Do this loads of times.

Once thats comphy add your toe in.
As your heel is rising after a stroke strike the pedal with your toe. The ball of your foot still does not leave the board.

After a while essentially what happens is as you are moving your heel up and down you get 2 strokes.

After a while you will notice that your foot is kind of "level". Once you get that down you can play **** fast plus it opens up loads of cool triplet patterns that feel very natural to play.

    Double Bass isnt cheating!!:)
It's kinda like saying a 12 string guitar is cheating.
It suits some style of music better than other.
If you learn how to play the double bass even if you dont use it in songs it will greatly improve your co-ordination and timing. You can also apply what you learned with your left foot to your high hat.

Plus learning double bass the strenght in your legs will develop evenly.

    My 2 cents!

This is true! But Id still feel like a dirty cheat using it for punk :P

Is that basically the "heel toe technique"? Are you actually getting a hit with the heel?

As fo tiger man, thats fast! was trying that one out, the drummer from face to face used have a lesson on youtube, cant find it since! Anyone know how high you should sit for that, my leg just goes retarded sometimes and i cant hit the two when sliding up!

True, not very typical in punk. (I think leftover crack might use it sparingly in a track or 2 though)

Yeah its basically the heel toe technique. You are getting a hit with your heel however I'd describe the hits more as coming from the motion.
If you think of a see saw, as one end is going down the other end is going up and the ball of your foot is the sweet spot (fulcrum) in the middle.

I wouldnt worry about your leg going nuts. Just start off slow and focus on getting even hits and it being comfortable. The speed will come in time.

As a practice routine you could just start off with the heel going up and down from the ankle counting 8ths 1+2+3+4.
Then add the 16th's in with your toe 1e+a2e+a3e+a4e+a.

Then you can switch it around by starting with 8ths using your toes then add the 16ths in with your heel.

Cool thanks for that! hmmmmm.. just tried what was said earlier for a while, problem there for me is getting any sound out of the heel part of it, my shoe size is fairly big which could be adding to the problem but im probably not doing it right!
