How to convince parents to let me get contacts?

I actually despise glasses, they look horrible, they give pimples (Adolescence yay  ) and I can't play sports with them.

Which means I can't really play sports at all, I can't see properly past my wrist. I've asked my eye doctor and she said as long as I have a signed note from my coach it's totally legal.

Now my parents on the other hand, they think they're a big waste of money and apparently I'm not worth it.

Does anyone have a convincing argument I can use to try and persuade them? :P

The sports argument. Point out that you can't do sports in glasses, and that by preventing you getting contacts, they are limiting your physical fitness. There's a lot of evidence that not getting the fitness habit in the teen years makes it much more likely you will be a couch potato later, with all the health problems that brings.

I find that contacts are a godsend for me because I cycle. If it rains, I wouldn't be able to see a thing with glasses, so I'd be a danger to myself and other road users. With lenses, I have the same vision as anyone else. Actually, even if it's not raining, lenses are better for cyclists, because with glasses, you have less peripherial vision. As it is, I can see out of the corner of my eye in a way that would not be possible with glasses.

    Why are they against it?

Agreed. Push the sports thing. I don't know how you can play sports with them anyway? I assume you're not playing a contact sport or your glasses would be running a high risk of being broken

I wear them sometimes and there's no comparison between vision with contacts and vision with glasses. You have better peripheral vision, they don't fog up or splatter with rain. Also, I've found with some pairs of glasses I've owned that after constant wear, they've become uncomfortable and hurt my ears.

If you do what your optician tells you and go for check-ups, you shouldn't have any trouble with them.

How about doing a bit of research into what lenses can cost. I go to my optician for check-ups etc. but only buy small quantities of lenses from there. I buy most of my contacts from the internet and have saved lots.

True. My gas permiable lenses are compatively cheap, especially if you need a couple of different pairs of glasses to ensure you don't lose them.
