I'm interested to find out- when learning to drive did you buy a little few hundred euro/ 1k old car or spend a few grand on something you could keep for a few years? Anyone go all out and buy a dear one?
I don't know if it's better to buy a little 1k punto and learn then buy I car that's nice or a few grand (all I can afford) on a nicer one that I can keep for longer

I spent 1800€ on a Ford Fiesta for my first car, I advise getting one around that price. You want one that is not so cheap with an awful engine that it will break down anywhere on you, or may have hidden problems at the time of sale!!
That said I wouldn't buy a very good car as learners are not the nicest on clutches!!:D

€2,400 on a Seat Arosa - great little car that I plan on hanging on to for a while.

750 on my Micra. Just something to start in. I'll probably sell it next year and get something nicer.

2,000 on a fiat punto in June, ten times easier to drive than the car my mum had at the time

I spent €2300 on a 99 Skoda Felicia. I found some old documents a few months ago and discovered the feckin' thing would've been still NCT'd! (It would've expired by now though.) Anyway I wrote it off and, since I insured it for a little bit more than I paid, after paying the excess I made €10 on the deal! :D

    ...I miss that car.
