I planned a day shooting today.
Dropped herself and the new baby to her mothers for the day while i went for a shot.
I could hear snipe down the bottom of the field in the swamp over the last few days. Its great land for pheasants, snipe and a few woodpigeon.
Really looking forward to it as i hadnt got out since the first.
Got home, dressed for occasion, geared up and grabbed my boots.
Soaking for some reason:confused:. I mean they were squelching!!!! Not to worry, iv wellys in the shed. No i dont, because i left them in the uncles van last week:mad:
I could see a pigeon flying by outside. 'Right' i said, 'feck this, im still going for a shot', and put on a pair of ould shoes. Happy as larry i walked down to the end otf the field/start of swampy boggy area. 4 pigeons flew out, raised the gun and 'click', forgot to load it:mad: At this stage my head was all over the place. Loaded gun, and started to walk on, Could hear few snipe calling in the distance. Few more steps and had to stop. Whole area flooded!!!!!! Impassable!!
With that i headed home, wet feet slightly pissed off. Ended up just walking the dog. Someone up there just didnt want me to shoot!!:(

Youve just recieved your first lesson in looking after your gear;) after hunting I firstly give the gun a quick wipe down before cleaning and then get all my shooting gear sorted, anything that needs washed gets washed and stuff is all prepped for the next day..:)

2nd day out this year I has the easiest shot of a noble pheasant in the 1st field I entered, I covered him over the tree line but was not happy with the dog so left him off. a bit eager 1st thing in the morning. He flew a field & landed in some light cover so I said I'd give him another go. Dog worked majestically this time, did everything right, staunch point into a pile of gorze, flushed on command - went through it like a train, bird flew out at my toes crowing goodo & away from me in a direct line. Thought ah lovely, left him off & off & click! What the f**k!?
Opened the gun, completely forgot to load it in all the excitement to get out!!! Had to laugh but dog was none too happy when it didn't fall! Could see him waiting for it to drop! All part of the sport... Bird was blessed!
