Bale silage at €9 per bale for cutting plus balinng and wrapping. I supply plastic.
Too bloody expensive I think. Getting around to mindset of purchasing lot more ration next year, and cutting silage back by 60%!
Have one pen of suckler cows in shed now, getting very much restricted silage with balance made up of meals. Assuming they work out ok, and no calving difficulties, I will definitely change approach next year.Do all other work myself with cheap old tractor.

If you're planning on going mowing, baling and wrapping at €10/bale including plastic I'd suggest you take a closer look at your figures. There's no great fortune to be made at that money and I doubt your competitors will be impressed. The same goes for pit silage at €80/acre, I know there were fellas at that money this year but it'll be interesting to see how long they last.

I dont think we spend much more than €80 an acre, maybe its €90 not sure though

Curious, what part of the country are you in, cause that was the going rate up our way, westmeath that is, and some have been working for a lot less too.

I think somewhere around €100/acre is a reasonable price for silage. I don't know how any contractor makes money at €80, particularly with a self-propelled outfit, but I'd agree €125 is a bit on the steep side. Do they stay behind to cover the pit at that money? As for bales we charged €9/bale inc. VAT to mow, bale, wrap and stack this year when the customer had a decent amount of bales and supplied their own plastic. After that there are plenty of variations depending on whether we mowed, supplied plastic, how many wraps of plastic, and whether we stacked. Supplying plastic is something I'll be charging more for again next year to try to encourage people to buy their own. It's getting too expensive to carry the credit cost involved for 6 months of the year.

1st cut e100 raking e8 splitt this cost with contractor
for the 2nd cut we access the crop with contractor and agree a price depending on how heavy usually e80 - e85, if conditions suit we will lie two swards beside each other then rake into a 40ft sward saves contractor a bit of fuel, also works well in wet conditions as saves on the amount of traveling with heavy trailers

Drove a tm 190 and a mxm 190, both had problems with a pressure switch and leaked oil out of the gearbox very quickly, i think. Other than that didnt come accross to many other major problems.

Was talking to me father there and we were charged €90 an acre for silage, thats in monaghan. They used to help cover the pit a couple of years ago but not recently!

it all depends if you need the extra 45 horses. no point having a tractor that size if the 155 will do the same job as it will be a good bit lighter on juice. it kinda depends on condiition and hours. i suoppse tractors that size didnt have an easy life starting off probably on a dump trailer or something challenging

Imo, i wouldnt touch either of those tractors. Know a few mxm's in that hp bracket with lots of back end trouble, and the high hp tm's dont have a great name either. How many hours on them? contractor or farmer before?

They are both around the 4000 hour mark and were contractor owned..What tractors would you recommend around the 150hp and fairly reasonably priced??
