Motions defeated all round! Would have thought the singles matchplay would have appealed to a lot? Realise the calendar is fairly full but a lot of members would be in favour of this IMO.

Please don't change the text colours, they don't come out on certain configurations.

    PLEASE

Sorry if the text didn't come up right it was copied from an email converted to a word document.

The higher handicap competition was lost on the basis that clubs are looking to cut back on competition entries in the coming year due to financial restraints.

The proposal on reuturning to full handicaps for fourballs wouldn't have made any difference if it was passed as it would have to be approved firstly by GUI congres and secondly by CONGU both of which have consistantly in the passed not voted in favour.

Again the motion on the mixed was lost because to carry out that proposal would have required another 9 venues on top of the already required 100+ venues need to run inter club competitions.

surprised the 4-ball handicap motion was so closely contested - the notion that it is as difficult to play singles on your own, as it is to play with a team-mate is laughable. Even with 3/4's the winning scores are often in the high 40's for 4-balls, give full handicap and your pushing the 50 point mark!!

I'm surprised at Carton House looking to make the Junior Cup an +18 event. The day we played in them in qualifying they had a young kid around 14 in their squad who by all accounts was very handy.

I know they were knocked out in the finals, so perhaps they were undone by a few young lads?

That's a contentious couple of motions from Carton, trying to block kids out of the Metro and Junior Cup.

We played two teams with some very young guys but I think that's just the way it's gone now. Encouraging young players will stand to any club who wants to do well in interclub. Sure, some may have "false" handicaps as they improve so quickly. But that's down to the system (1st Jan rule). Besides, there's as many middle aged guys lurking around 5 or 9 for a long, long time without dipping below, and that's nothing to do with the system!

I know the lad you're talking about. He's also a junior member of Lucan and switched allegiance halfway through 2009 to play for Carton. He's 16 and down to 2 now I think. Very tidy short game.

This was part of Cartons point, it wasn't that they were really trying to stop juniors it was more to the fact that they can come down so quickly from the 1st of January, and would have preffered that handicaps were current, rather than the way all GUI copms are now which is the 1st January

I played with him in Portmarnock, short because of his size but pure magic inside 120 yards.

Yeah, he's broken my heart on a number of occasions with his wedge and putter. :o
