When I go to rte.ie on the Wii internet browser and then click on the icon for the RTE player, I get a black screen and nothing happens. Is there any way to get this to work?

I don't think so, as far as I know, sorry. I think it has to do with the browser being limited in flash player capabilities.

The browser works fine with BBC's iPlayer though. But you're probably putting your finger on the issue that is has something to do with Flash player settings or version.

It works with BBC iPlayer? Class! I probably can't access it from Ireland though.

Unless you use a UK proxy - but how would proxies work with a Wii?

But anyway, flash player itself can't be the issue. Maybe a version issue? I've emailed RTE before I put up this thread but my expectations of a swift knowledgeable reply are not that high :)

It would be brilliant though if someone could shed some more light on this?

Its definitely flash. Tons of websites can't be used to max capabilities on wii due to flash.

Isn't the RTE player Real Player based? Pretty sure the Wii has issues with that as well as flash.

iPlayer works quite well actually and is pretty handy :D

AFAIK the flash support in the wii opera browser is based on flash 7. This excludes lots of sites that specifically require flash 8 or 9 - I suspect the RTE site is in this category.
Opera should be capable of being configured to use a proxy if you have access to one.

RTE Player is Flash based. There are some Real and Windows Media holdovers on the main RTE site.

RTE's Player FAQ states they they recommend the latest version of Flash for it to work, but don't list a minimum.

I thought it only worked with an old version of flash? 5.0 or something..

Might be the same for the RTE thing.
