Hi all my wife has asked (ordered) me to paint the living room before Christmas which is not a big problem, however she has requested that the chimeny breast be a different color, Can any one explain how I get a straight line were it joins the wall as the plaster in the corner is not perfectly straight and I dont want a wavy line as the two colors are so different and it will show up.

    Hope ye can help.

    Best Rgds.

If you're not confident with a brush then try some low tack masking tape. Finish your other colour first (assuming your chimney breast is going to be the darker tone) and allow it to dry for a few days before applying the tape, otherwise it'll most likely lift the paint when you try and remove it. Be sure that the tape is firmly applied.
When painting, avoid daubing the paint on to the tape...instead do your best to cut tight to the tapeline. This avoids bleed through and makes for a neater edge. Remove tape as soon as you're done. Don't let the paint dry.
