    It's not overly difficult.

If you've never done it before, you might be as well to make sure you've got a service manual to consult.

Is it possible that you could make a total b*llocks of it of course.

If you can get your hands on an old/broken laptop for a practice run, all the better.

    Hi

Flip off the plastic cover at the top of the keyboard. Couple of screws under there, then the 8 around the screen itself. May need to take keyboard off aswell. This will get you on the way. The will be a couple of cables you will need to disconnect. It is fairly handy I will post a pic for you soon but do not have time now.

    Dar

    mainly it's fiddly

small screws (bolts) hidden under plastic labels
the snap fasteners just waiting to break

digital camera to photograph as you go is very handy if you want to remember which screw goes where

search on line to find the model of LCD it has and then see which other laptops used the same one - you are looking for a laptop that someone has spilt beer or coffee over the keyboard

check that it works ok using an external monitor to make sure you aren't on a wild goose chase

connectors on the LCD may be taped in place ,again photograph so you know which way round to fix them

google for disassemble with the laptop model to find pics hopefully

Thanks again!! (in the meantime have been glancing at recent posts about new tosiba laptops..........sounds good too!! could fix this later in the year too couldn't I........:D this might just have been the push I needed to get that new laptop I wanted with the last 6 months.:p

Go to YouTube and type in the make and model of your laptop. There are probably videos on there that show you how to remove/replace the hard disks, memeory, keyboard, optical drives and, if you're lucky, the screen. Watch the video a couple of times. It may not be possible, but having the video running on another laptop during your repair attempt is very helpful.

Get a digital camera ready, the one on your phone will probably do. As you disassemble the laptop, take close up pictures, especially of any cable or small wires that need to be disconnected. There will be at least one cable connecting the keyboard and once the keyboard is out of the way, there'll probably be several wires to the screen. Taking the pictures will help you connect these wires back in the right places.

Have patience. Some of the connectors can be very small and fiddly. If something is connecting right after a couple of attempts. Take five to calm down, then try again.

Thanks, had found a couple of sites with pics and films showing how to do it, which is why I know I can do it too!

Just getting quotes on screens from various sites now. If anyone knows a reputable one with keen prices I'd love to know too - thanks!:D
