Their site has no details yet.
Last December, 38 people lost their lives on Irish roads, with 18 people killed or seriously injured over the Christmas period alone.

There are two parts to this year’s campaign. The first includes a new TV and radio advertisement and is aimed at encouraging people to get home safely this Christmas by using taxis or hackneys. The second includes two radio ads and highlights the danger of drink driving the morning after a night’s socialising. ‘Morning After’ campaign cards will also be distributed and a poster campaign will target pubs and clubs nationwide.

I know some of us have gripes with the RSA and the old guy running it but try not to let this thread turn into too much of a RSA rant thread. ;)

They are REALLY concentrating on drink driving. Nothing mentioned about speeding. 1 in 3 serious accidents are caused by drink driving. That's a statistic I never knew!

Stay safe and try cut down on doing stupid things or taking that usual "calculated" risk this x-mas while driving.

Also the RSA have an ad on the radio saying to drive with your dipped lights on at all times.

    Fair Play! :D

We all know that drink driving is a big cause of accidents on Irish roads, and the new TV ad's are very effective IMO.

One think I think they should concentrate on is driving while tired. I was knackered coming back up to Dublin on Sunday night, and how I kept the car on the road I dont know*.

They should also look at encouraging people to use common sense and their heads while on the road - if everyone did that, I'm sure a lot more lives could be saved.

Yes, I know I should have stopped and slept for a while.

Oh, and the RSA are a shower.

Was in scotland last week... They had HUGE signs every where saying frustration can casue accidents. Allow over taking. And then sometimes layby in 500 metres pull in to allow over taking...

This should be the next campain that they should do.. and also signs on motor ways to stay in the left most lane..

I also heard an RSA spokesperson on the radio saying they will also highlight "living" victims : ie those not killed but seriously injured and/or maimed for life. They are usually forgotten.

You should know by now you can't spout a statistic like that around here without someone asking for proof :)

True... I wonder if the RSA should move away from the whole speed debate and stop telling people what they shouldn't do and start advising people on what they should be doing ... something nice and simple for the wider public like.....

    Parking lights are for..... PARKING

Driving lights are for ..... DRIVING

and the one I love, Fog lights are for ........... ok ok ok I won't start another thread on that topic... sorry. :)

On the topic of road safety ads, can anyone remember the old one with some guy driving his car down an empty dual carrageway singing "If I was the only driver in the world"? I think it was in the early 80's... good old RTE....

+1 - first bit of sense I heard from the RSA yet. They;ve finally got the lead out and started campaigning round real issues, not the blanlket "Speed Kills" horse ****e.

We'll be waiting - dont you know we in Ireland only adopt policies we know will fail ?

The proportion of people who drive while knackered must be huge compared to those who dirve drunk and the effects are very similar - poor judgment kills !

They are doing that already (the fella who crashed whilst drunk and now sounds drunk all the time).
