Connecting domain to a VPS server?

    Hey all,

I'm just dropping in to enquire about something. I rented out a VPS a while back, and I have most applications working quite well, but I have an issue with getting the DNS server to work with the domain.

I'm just wondering, if you do not have a domain already attached to a DNS server, how do you go about getting one linked in to it using Webmin / BIND DNS server?

The operating system is a 64bit version of Debian Lenny.

If even I could get somewhat closer to figuring it out it'd be much appreciated :)

Your domain registrar grants authority over your domain to your nameservers.

This may take time to percolate through to other nameservers if you already have an assigned IP for the domain.

    Hope this helps.

Just have whoever registered the domain name , point the A record for the domain at the IP address of your VPS server and also the MX records if you intend to host your email off the VPS server as well.

Thanks for that Sposs, so it is best to change the records themselves rather than changing the nameservers?

Edit: Thank you, it works :) I will probably be on about the mail server should I have difficulty in setting that up, but that really was easier than I thought.

Yea it always better to just change the records instead of going to the hassle of setting up your own nameservers.
