    Story
A major emergency operation is under way at an apartment block in south Co Dublin after the roof was blown off the building.

The incident occurred at an apartment complex at Carrickmines Manor on the Glenamuck Road.

Dublin fire brigade has four fire engines and a rescue unit at the scene. There are no reports of injuries.

Three nearby buildings buildings have been evacuated.

Residents from the affected block are to be temporarily housed at local hotel. Over 20 people live in the block where roof came off.

    The incident happened at 8.30am.

According to eyewitness David Cooney, gardaí have a cordon across the entrance to the complex.

The buildings are being evacuated until they can all be assessed.

Mr Cooney says he did not see any debris around - just the roof 'clean off' the building.

He is also living in a top floor apartment in the complex and says his building felt 'pretty shaky' this morning.

John Guckian, Senior Executive Officer with Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council's Environment Department, said he had never seen anything like this happen before.

Imagine sitting in your apartment while that's happening!! Scary stuff!

What's the bets that if they can prove that the building was built to code, and there was no storm warning etc, that the insurance company will try fob it off as an act of god and not pay up.

something similar happened to a neighbours car.
Brand new jag, sitting in the driveway. Tree fell over.
    WHOMP.. Jag-pancake.
Car insurance wouldn't cover it. Neither would the house insurance cause it was just outside the free standing garage thing he had.

I knew this would happen when we started putting the buildings in charge of other buildings. But did anybody listen?

Its a media cover up. It wasn't a storm that did it. Local reports indicate it was this culprit.

Some of those rental prices are eye watering. I'm assuming it's the builder who's renting them ?

The roof '' appeared to be made from plywood and MDF''

    shoddy work indeed...

One of the residents was quoted on RTE news saying it concerned her the apartments were built so fast and she feels shoddy workmanship and materials are to blame.

But that was some hell of a wind last night/ this morning...

Think its Wyse Property Management who run the complex and Pierse Construction who built them.......

Bewleys Hotel in Leopardstown are getting a bit of extra business to house the residents for the next 2 days according to RTE news.

They're discussing it over on the property pin aswell.
Someone pulled up an old post from 2006, where the poster said they would be worried about the workmanship of Carrickmines Manor after they viewed the show apartment, which was full of leaks - bedroom floor was soaked and there was even a bowl in the living room to catch the drips

If it wasn't on the snag list, what would you expect them to do about it ?(joke)

In fairness, I was surprised to see this as the headline on the news last night as with everything else that is happening with flooding in this country.
Seems a bit strange that hundreds of houses are being destroyed, and this takes precedence over the devastation of the floods.

Looking at this story reminded me of when a neighbours garage roof blew off!
What actually happened was that one windy morning he went to the garage, opened the door, rush of air and woosh!! the roof was gone!

I wonder if someone on the top floor opened a window or even the front door of the foyer! the small change in air pressure might have been all that was needed for lift off!

Come to think of it I think my neighbours roof was better constructed as the wind took the top 2 foot of the walls (where the holding down straps were) as well!

A bit like selling a secondhand car and there is a "deathrattle" when the engine is running!
