VRT Free in 2010

3 cars here, all launched in 1980 which makes them classic in 2010 so €50 VRT and bugger all road tax.

I've always liked the Quattro, but they were always a bit expensive. Nearest I ever got was a 200 Avant Quattro, which in fairness was good enough.

Mondial not the prettiest Ferrari ever built but still.

And a mate of mine had one of these when I lived in Germany, great memories but not the most reliable. Seemingly some parts like the door handles and some of the interiort were off a Peugeot 505, they shouldn't have stopped there.

W126 Mercedes, some of them were registered in 1979 but the choice should be a lot larger now. More 450SEL 6.9s, too.:)

W123 estate came on the market before 1980, my first car was a 1979 300TD, rust bucket, but great days. Looking for a 6 series CSI myself, was thinking of the UK but I think big yokes like them look better in their original LHD. Has to be fully loaded though. :) So it looks like a trip to Germany sometime next year.

Yep, the 300TDT was marketed in 1980, only available as LHD and only with the automatic transmission. It was the most expensive version of the 123 series.

The W116 300SD was in fact the first Turbodiesel engined car, introduced in 1977.
The OM617 does not really need to be converted to run on plant oil. My one runs on it OK, however it is better if you mix it with regular Diesel - depending on the outside temperature - say between 30 and 70 %.

AFAIK it was released in Europe in 1976 but we only got it in 1979/80.

Didn't know that. Just googled a minute and the 300SD was only available in the US and Canada. Never knew the diesel was derived from the diesel engine used in the C111 either. Never mind Ferraris, that car (or should I say those cars) were legend when I was a boy

think what 30 years of wear and tear does to a cars bodywork.

Now imagine how that girl looks with all that extra mileage and how many not so careful "owners"

The pic fits fine on a 1650x1080 monitor, but that not a turbo model....it's a 1976 S1....so it should get the axe!

^^ There's people been driving 924's VRT free since 2006!

Mind you, they were first built in 1976 though I doubt there's many of that vintage surviving on Irish roads... :pac:

I'd love one of these, but the petrol versions are thirsty puppies, and the diesel is US/Canada only, for a few years yet?

Oh yeah. Fantastic car. Really revolutionary. The effort and budget in developing that car with the prime interest in safety is just amazing. Best small car in the world in the last 30 years.
