Just to make a change from the current public mood I thought I'd start a thread here to say thanks to all the Emergency Service people for their sterling work during the flooding here in Cork city and across the South and West. It is part of your job etc but above and beyond the call etc. :)

Its terrible, not all of ye got to go shopping....:p

Anywho, I'm very fortunate not to live in the affected areas, I'm sure the local people greatly appreciate the hard work by the Fire Service, Gardaí, Civil Defence, NAS, Army, and volunteers.

I was walking around Cork City on the Friday morning. There were Gardai and Fire Brigade members everywhere.

I'd like to say well done to the Civil Defence volunteers who were called out in Galway. You all came at a moment's notice and gave what time you had for no money. Thanks, you've shown the public exactly what a well organised team can do.

I'm sure all the other county's units deserve credit as well, but it's not my place to give it. I'm sure that if it was anything like what I saw, it would have been exemplary.
