iPod on the way out?

Hi, I have one of the original 160gb iPod classics (not the new ones that are out ATM) and it's started acting up. It's very slow (it always was slow, but now it seems to be getting slower) and the click wheel is working but the buttons aren't. E.g if i press play/forward/backward/menu nothing happens. Thats the second time it happened and a reset in itunes sorted it out the first time. It's well out of warranty as I got it near the launch date. So is t possibly on the way out? Is there anything I can do? I don't want to have to resort to using my iPod mini with a dodgy battery or my shuffle :)
