About to order a Inspiron 17 from dell.

I'm trying to decide between two builds.

The first has the T4300 processor and 4GB of RAM

The second has the T6600 but only 3GB of Ram (which is 20 euro more)

    Both run windows 7.

The laptop is for my parents who will use it for Internet/Office/Skype/watching rte player etc...

    Any thoughts.

    Jim

The T6600 has twice the cache and runs slightly faster. I'd give it the nod because upgrading memory is easier than upgrading a CPU. However, if it's just for your parents, it'll probably never be necessary.

    Better CPU, no question.

4GB of RAM is only useful if you have 4GB worth of programs running at the same time and unless this is going to get used for serious gaming, you will simply never need this much RAM -- Windows 7 takes up about 1 gig RAM, which still leaves you with 2 more to play around with. More than enough, imo. (You can also get away with 32-bit Windows 7 if you take the 3GB option which could make life a little bit easier for certain drivers and such.)

Faster CPU will allow applications to open a few seconds faster which, while probably not that valuable for a basic internet surfing machine, will at least be utilised.
