Well the other half isnt happy with the look of her "standard" 06 320 and wants to do pimp it a bit (in the bmw way, not furry dice etc)

Just looking for advice here on what she could do to give it a sportier look and how much its likely to cost our joint account

    all suggestions welcome

    thanks in advance

Try here. best bet is a nice set of wheels, lower it and maybe a lip spoiler on the boot.

id say if you went to a main dealer youd get good bargains in the current recession

dont go over the top. im assuming you have an E90 SE model.

the best option imo is a BMW M-Sport body kit, M3 rear lip spoiler and a nice set of wheels and a lower if necessary.

    Rear Lip Spoiler

    M-Sport Body Kit

These are my favourite alloywheels for the 3 series at present in 19" size

Or save yourself time, money and hasslehoff by trading against one that already has the above.

Don't forget the fake 'M' badges, like the other 30% on the road.

    Tinted windows, Russian mafia look?

    Na F*ck that. Looks terrible.
Id only put on an M badge thing if i had the M kit on the car.
Out of curiosity how much would an M kit cost. just for the kit not the wheels and stuff. (i could be miles off with that, maybe you have to get everything together)
Would a bmw dealer put the m kit on for you

Yes, a dealer could do it and you could get the kit and wheels separately. A good independent could supply, spray and fit the kit as well.

We put an M-Sport front bumper on to an SE last year for a customer. He liked the look of the M-Sport but wanted the equipment of the SE.

Think it was around €1,750 for that part alone from a main dealer. Part, paint and labour.

Stick an M badge on it, as well as making people think it's an M3, it adds 25-30bhp depending on model.

Iv checked the car and it has a little lip spoiler on the boot so thats one less thing shell be looking for. Does the m kit not mean ya also have to get front and back arches aswell as front and rear bumper. Do ya need to get a bonnet too. Or does the m kit look a completly different car to a whats on the m 3 car (sorry for all the questions but she has me bamboozled with questions)

Surely puttin an m badge on any model is only askin for the car to get robbed. Out of curiosity, what is the bhp of the m3.

Surely a car thief will glance at your exhaust and say hmmmm this aint an M3.................... ........

No, M-tech is really just a different trim level and sports suspension, and the differences vary from model to model. The big differences tend to be front and rear bumpers, alloys and maybe side skirts. As I said, suspension is stiffer, and then there are smaller touches like the roof headlining, steering wheel, door sill trim strips etc.

You can also get AC Schnitzer style bodykit, but it's a bit OTT for my taste.

An M badge is NOT the same as an M3 badge.

Id be much obliged if anyone could post a couple of pics or a link to what a completed m kit for a 320 looks like. Im after doing loads of searches but i keep coming up with individual pics of each thing i.e bumper view only.

The front bumper looks the exact same as whats on the car now, its hard to tell with the rear bumper though, as the car is dark blue and there no grey part at the bottom of the bumper. But the rear bumper looks the same as in pic, should car have m badge on it if it has m kit, what does a normal 320d look like. Any way i can definitely confirm if theres a m kit on the car. Car was originally brought in from england.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 73,520 ✭✭✭✭colm_mcm

I think you should tell your wife that it already has an M kit on it, that should get you out of trouble for a while :D

Seriously, can you post a pic of the car?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 76 ✭✭SuperMario

Ill try and get a pic tomorrow when she lands home from work. I suppose i could just drive into a bmw dealer and ask them what they think is on it. If it does turn out to be an m kit on it, i think a swap in the driving of car will be happening!!!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,263 ✭✭✭✭Eoin

I don't think that M badges are factory fitted - they might be just done at the dealer, or by the owner. Are there no stickers on your alloys, steering wheel etc?

If you do have the M-tech kit, then you can get nice splitters that attach to the bottom of the spoiler. You can also replace the front grill with a matt black one for small money.

The alloys have bmw blue and white crest in the middle and say m on the wheel under the crest, theres no m on the steering wheel or seats or any other part of the car etc, she did inform me it has reverse sensors and that the grille/start of bonnet is silver. it does say bmw in metal strip on the door sill/step though too(dont know if that means anything) oh it has a shark fin thingy too instead of an aerial i think and black leather seats. Iv never had any history with 3 series bmw so dont know the ins and out of the car. Thanks again for all the help/info guys

Have a look through the service book and around the car - there's bound to be a sticker somewhere with codes for the options the car came from the factory with.

Sell the E90 and get yourself a slightly older BMW (3er or 5er) - there are loads of really cool kits for them

whats all the hype about M badges? M badges are part of the M-Sport kits, it would be different if the OP was putting M3 badges on it.

did you even look at my first post in this thread???
it post number 5 of your thread and has the complete M kit detailed on an actual car.

OP if your confused as to wether you have an MSport or SE car then you better find out quick as the difference has insurance complications. SE's are valued quite a bit less than MSport's so you need to make sure your happy with the spec of your car.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,323 ✭✭✭MarkN

A lot of people seem confused by the M badge. Some think it's an M car because it has it on the back, some people think they OWN an M car by putting the badge on the back and then there's the people that know it's just a trim level.

There is no way you could confuse an M car with an M sport model, particularly the E46, E92 and E60 models. Having said that, why BMW didn't call M sport something else to completely get away from the possibility of confusion, I don't know.

For example VW make GTIs, the lookalike GTI is called a highline. Although that is to look at anyway, a carbon copy.

No they're not. They M Badging on the M-Sport Models is done very discreetly, tiny badges on the steering wheel & gear lever, and tiny badges on the wheels. Those who know, don't need to show :)

yes there standard, as i said in my original post. my old M-Sport had them in various places on the my old 3 series, my GF's E90 has them and my parents E60 has them and their old E46 had them, so i know what is standard and not. (steering wheel, gear stick, door cills, wheels)

if the OP wants to put M badges on then theres nothing wrong with that as long as its an M-Sport, if the OP wants to put M3 or M5 or M6 badges on, then thats a different story altogether.

whats the last comment mean? its not like an M-Sport is an incredible piece of machinery.......BTW i consider M-Sport cars separate to M-Powered cars such as M3, M5 etc etc

Right lads, i popped in to a bmw main dealer and it turns out that the wheels are m wheels (fairly obvious the cause the m sign is on them)

The front bumper is an m bumper and it has side skirts aswell, however the rear bumper is not m (probably didnt change it because of reverse sensors), but the spoiler on the boot is and apparently that shark fin aerial thing is extra too and the model of the car is ES.

so long story cut short i have no ideas what i have to do now so shell be satisfied that she has an m kit on the car.

Nurburgring little vinyl sticker looks good on most german motors and they really cheap too. Got one for like €2.50 there the other day from a site called 'The Sticky Rings'. They seem to do a good range of vinyls and stuff so maybe your missus might like a few of them?

Found a coupon code on their Gumtree ad for 10% off the order so sure i may as well share that: TSR0001 is the code.

Hope thats of some help anyways. Think that code just used on their site anyway. I think you'll just find them if you look it up in Google.

Yeah i didn't buy it for a car, just bought it for using on indoor stuff and that. Good selection of stuff on that site tho. Mainly for japanese makes though it seems.

I never knew that, I always thought the M badges on the boots of E60s looked naff. Now I know why.
