Ipod Classic problems

    I have a 30gb Ipod classic and recently a warning came up telling me to connect it to a computer to restore it.
    I hooked it up to the laptop, restored it and once it was restored my Itunes software crashed causing the laptop to stall. I restarted the laptop again and plugged in the Ipod while Itunes was running. The Ipod failed to show up on the menu on the left on the screen and Itunes and the laptop crashed again.
    I called to the local Apple store here in Limerick but they were not much help at all.
    Have anybody got any suggestions hot to sort this out?
