Looks like there's a whole raft of issues with the new range of iMacs.

New machines DOA, cracked screens and C2D machines apparently suffering performance issues too :(

So far so good with my new imac. 8 days of ownership and its going strong! No cracks on the screen either. I hope its just a dodgy batch and not across the board.

I doubt it's a problem with your machine. probably a problem with keychain. did you migrate your machine? if so from what OS?

24 inch? Then it's not one of the new iMacs, which are only 21 inch or 27 inch.

Sounds like a software problem to me. Have you installed any Safari add-ons? Try creating a new user account and see if the problem is replicated there.

For this exact reason I've always held off a few months when buying all things Apple. I always thought it better to let the first shipment or two get out of the way.
I was going to get a 27" in the new year but if there's much knocked off them for their Black Friday sale on the 27th Nov it might nudge me towards the checkout a bit early.
There seems to be conflicting reports of the usual mild discounts versus whopping ones.

Same here. Never buy the first run of anything.

Its Apple, there deffo won't be whopping discounts.

Well I booted mine up so at least it wasnt DOA. Only had 10 mins with it though before I had to go back to work. Did notice what looked like a small bit of dust behind the screen in the top right corner. I'll keep an eye out for the other mentioned issues over the next week of use. It's a beautiful machine. Cant wait to get home to use it :D

Anyone have any idea as to how long of a wait there currently is if i were to order one of the new quadcore '27 iMacs tomorrow? Would I receive it before Christmas, say?

Well the shipping status now says "5-7 days" so if it takes about a week from the order date to ship, it then will take another week max I'd guess (I usually get my stuff in 3-4 working days from shipment) to reach you so yes, you should have it well before Christmas.
