Parking Opinions Please

    Hi all,

Can I get some opinions please.

I passed this car with a ticket on the windscreen this afternoon.

This is a very similar set up to how I have to park my car sometimes, and I'd like to get some educated opinions on the legality (or otherwise) of it.

If one of our resident AGS posters has an opinion (or if there's a closet parking warden lurking on boards), I'd appreciate the input.

There's an abandoned industrial unit in Sandyford Industrial Estate.
The entrance of the carpark is blocked to stop people parking in the empty carpark.
It's quite common for cars to park in the "mouth" of the car park entrance.
I've never seen any car with a ticket there before.

Today there are two cars parked there. They are on what I would consider to be private property, not on the public road. I'd therefore assume that a Garda or ticket warden wouldn't be allowed to ticket them.

Technically, they do block the foot path - i.e. you have to walk around them slightly - but neither car is on the footpath.

Both cars protrude an equal amount.

There are no double yellow lines leading into the "mouth" of the car park.

The Laguna got a ticket for parking on the footpath, the Golf didn't.

Do you think the parking warden's in the wrong for ticketing the Laguna? Did the Golf have a lucky escape? Is there a reason for ticketing one and not the other?

If this happens to you, is there a way you can appeal it?

Is it possible the golf just got there after the warden/Garda?

Dont know bout the legality of the parkign though.

They're completely covering the "footpath" bit of the entrance. Fair game for Gardai and traffic wardens imho.

Blocking a footpath is very annoying if you are/have a wheelchair bound individual.

I would say whoever gave the ticket was right to do so because in the pictures the car are blocking free movement along the footpath.

Why one car and not the other?

I would consider that parking on a "road" and I'm not shy about where I park.
    Temp barrier notwithstanding.

    Nice try, though.

Would it be that the Laguna is much closer to the footpath therefore the gap between the car and the grass is quite small for a wheelchair or buggy but the golf is back from the path leaving plenty if room to get around it.

Other than that I cannot see a difference.

Reason for ticketing Laguna and not the Golf - if you were in a wheel-chair coming up the path, you could easily manouvre out around the Golf as there's sufficient space between the car and the path for a wheel-chair/buggy etc to be able to move. However the Laguna is that close to the path that in order for either a wheel-chair or buggy to manouvre around it, it would require having to go over the kerb. Thus the Laguna is causing more of an obstruction to the path than the Golf is.

Just my 2c as I see it in those photos. ;)

The Golf was lucky. Both cars looked to be parked partially on the public road. The site boundary is most likely in line with the front boundary wall, not where the entrance is

Is it because the Laguna is close to blocking the footpath?
With the Golf there's more room to go around it but with the Laguna someone in a wheelchair may have go up on the grass?

Edit : Just what Top Dog said!

deserved the ticket in my opinion. Laguna is obviously blocking people

New model Laguna - probably just a demo anyway.

Strange one as I reckon that's technically road and there are no signs or markings on that particular piece of road to say no parking.

That's probably it. Or the Golf is owned by the warden's granny :D

The warden was probably pissed off that bill cullen sacked the breffmeister last week, ruining his monday night tv, and was out for revenge on anyone lending their business to him

Stekelly has it nailed - Golf was parked after the Laguna was ticketted. Simples! :)
