    Hi lads,

    Is “driving” defined anywhere in the Road Traffic Acts other than in the 1961 act, where it says:

    "driving" includes managing and controlling and, in relation to a bicycle or tricycle, riding, and "driver" and other cognate words shall be construed accordingly;

    Could this be interpreted as sitting in a car with the engine running, do you think? It's in the context of a proposal to signal the opening of automatic gates to an apartment complex by ringing a number from a mobile phone.

    Yes the activity you describe would be encompassed within the definition of driving provided in the 1961 Act, which is the only definition of driving with which I'm familiar which could apply.

    Driving includes parking.

    The above may be legal to get out of the car park (it would be unlikely that you would be in a public place), but not to get in (you would be in a public place).
