Between 6.15 and 6.30 this friday, November 27th (between the simpsons and home and away on RTÈ2) is the first installment of RTÉ's latest talent competition- "The Guitar", in which 16 of the countries best young guitarists compete for the chance to win a Fender Rory Gallagher Signature Stratocaster.
The competition is set to showcase one guitarist every day on the show until December 18 afaik, with voting lines opening that day and closing December 22.

First up this friday is Shawn Mullen from Stradbally Co. Laois, a fantastic guitarist whose playing style is heavily influenced by the likes of Slash, Joe Perry, Zakk Wylde, Hendrix, Gallagher amongst many greats.
He is currently the lead guitarist of laois based band .12 Gauge, and you can hear his inspirational playing first at www.myspace.com/12gaugemusic and also www.bebo.com/12gaugeband

For more info on the competition you can log onto www.rte.ie/theguitar

We're all rooting for Shawn to excel in this competition and hope a few fellow boardsies can take the time to tune in this friday through to December 18 and cast your votes (afaik the votes will be cast online but if anybody from Rté is lurking here please feel free to clarify)

    All the best,
    Barfly
