My advice is don't be close to the action (stadium) but be close to the action (city)!

The stadium is on the RER line B (commuter train) which runs north south so get him a place near one of the stops on it.

It will take for example almost an hour to get from the Eiffel Tower to the stadium station on match day so don't make him have to get a load of connections which will just make it awkward.

Also it's the same line which is to the airport (if not flying Ryan Air) so handy from getting from there to the hotel and back (€17 return).

link is for the RER map - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RER_B

    Advice?

Don't buy tickets. Go along on the day and you will get them free.
This is of course NOT A GUARANTEE, but if the previous two FAI matches there are anything to go by...

Go along to the stadium itself and even from about an hour before the match tickets will start being given away for free.

Reason is that people don't bother venture out to the stadium without a ticket cause it's out of town so there ends up being a way over supply of touts and friends who's other friends didn't turn up for whatever reason.

    Good luck.

Area around there is a kip! So somewhere else would be better to be honest.

What do you mean by 'close to the action'? The stadium itself is not in a nice area and I would definitely not stay there.

The best place to stay is as close as possible to the Irish Bar. I would recommend Kitty O'Shea's (sometimes the Irish team go back here after the match) http://kittyosheas.com/kitty_paris.asp. It's in the centre of Paris, walking distance to all amenities.

Before the match this bar will be packed. All the Irish in the bar will get the train to the stadium at the same time, which can be good craic. After the game everybody goes back here to drink some more, therefore you dont want to be walking to far from the hotel you're staying in.

There'll be plenty of tickets floating around this bar before the game. All going for face value.

No need to go to travel agents. They'll just rip you off. All you need is a plane ticket, accommodations and match tickets. Book as early as possible thou. Remember its Valentines weekend in Paris.
