    In your opinion, what is the best bike for use commuting (predominantly) and half loaded touring (once or twice a year), under €1000? :)

    I've done both on a Giant SCR (now the defy) which cost a bit over €900. Looking back I'd have put 28Cs tyres on it for the touring bit.

    I have no idea what the best would be, but with the good advice of the folks on this forum I got a Dawes Horizon for E999. It's been great for coummuting. I've used it quite a bit with two rear panniers and a full bikehod trailer. Nice and stable, and pretty fast.
