A friend of mine is in court in a few weeks after been assualted earlier this year and I am going with him for some support.

Can i ask how long one might have to stay around the courts? Is the person given a time in which their case will be heard and do these times tend to run over? Just need to know because i'll have to take a few hours from work. Ive seen court days before and a few hearings tend to go on at the same time, correct?

He might be given a 10am start with 50 other people, so yes there will be waiting any time until lunch. It might be worse in a rural area where things might go on all day.

I'm not sure if you can be certain it will be by lunch time though - best get a solicitor that normally deals with that court to tell you.

Unfortunately the length of court day is about the length of a piece of string.

I wouldn't be expecting to get out too early ;)

It completely depends on what court he is due to appear in and what the nature of the case is. I.e. is it district, circuit or high court and is he the injured party in a criminal case or the Plaintiff in a civil action or something else.
