Hi I had a tooth extraction done 7 days ago, i beleive a no. 6 upper, which had an abcess under it causing sinitous...the tooth was an old deep filling with a filling done on top of that ..a while ago the top filling fell out leaving one side of the crown still in plce the deep filling was still intact...

after 7 days still have a lot of pain on the extraction site and a prominant bulge on the gum wall with a swelling under the extraction site, both on the outer side. The dentist had to cut the tooth into sections to extract it...was wondering if what i should do regarding the pain... dont want to keep taking pain killers..

i also have no spleen.. would that be a reason the abcess isnt clearing?

received no antibiotics from the dentist at all before the extraction.

i dont think its a drysocket as the pain comes and goes..

tricky extractions tend to be slow at healing, so it's pretty likely to be a dry socket. once the tooth is gone, the cause of the infection is gone, so the antibiotics question won't really matter.
i'd say go back and get it checked. it'll only take a minute or so.
