Programming Drums : Searching for a realistic snare sound

I'm putting together a drum kit on Record/Reason.
I'm using the Redrum module which is basically a sample per channel with 10 channels.

    So..............

One channel has a snare sample, I want to get a realistic sound for snare rolls and rudiments etc.

The way I see it is one mic on the snare picking up the two stick hits which will be slightly apart.

So my idea is to use two channels with the same snare sample (call them Left and Right) and use a very slight delay on the left stick (assuming the snare is being miked from the right hand side) and reduce the mid and high freq's a little also on the left stick.

I could also just pan them slightly apart (instead).

    Any thoughts?

Thanks, but it's not much use to me. I want to use what I have without continuing to spend money every other day.

Well, adding the delay at 9 ms and lowering the velocity slightly on the left sample seems to have worked.

It's hardly as if it sounds like a drumkit in my living room but it's something to be worked at and learned from.

The reverb preset are fecking woeful though. To add to the overall kit or seperately on each piece...........

In the end reason drum kits have miked recorded samples and presets that seem decent enough.
