When you passed your exams did you apply for membership and have you kept up your CPD and membership fees since?

i think some members may opt not to be listed.

to OP, if you are doing the audit his qualification is irrelevant. he answers your queries which u can't rely on, find other form of audit evidences. if they are important issues, bring them to your supervisors attention. in any case u encounter a fraud or criminal act, it's your responsibility to report to your supervisor only. i'm sure your employer has policies in place eg, money laundering, etc.

gosh i'm thinking too much this sat morning.

You are performing an audit of the books and records of the company, if they are that bad, speak to your Partner/Manager or if you are the Partner speak to the Directors of the company.

If the explanations you are getting are that bad start sending the questions in writing, this will give evidence that you tried to communicate your queries, you will need to send a list of clear concise questions and get him to respond via email, you will either get your answers or proof that he is waffling.

Over the years I've seen great records kept by QBE (Qualified By Experience) accountants and bad ones kept by so called qualified professionals. As a member of 3 accounting bodies all I can say is that qualifications mean you can pass exams.

Hi guys thanks for the responses. It all came to a head last week when the directors asked to see his qualifications certs and he came clean that he was not qual but part qual ACCA. My initial suspicions were aroused by things the directors said.

they are seeking advice from both ACCA and a solicitor about his position, as he obviously lied. Problem is he was placed by the old auditor of the company. So it has absolutely nothing to do with our firm i'm happy to say.

some people really have a cheek

thanks for all your help lads.

Something similar happened in a company I worked in a few years ago, some fella loaded up the cv with nonsense, siad he was studying for the finals himself and I was doing them at the same time. He never done the finals, even took the days off. He got caught out after the results came out, only had 7 done. The boss phoned the ACCA and found out, pure chancer.

He was a chancer, but I blame the company too. Not enough companies make the simple check of asking for proof.

For example ACCA members now have credit card sized membership cards which can be carried around in a wallet.
