Right, Boosting is LAME, very lame, so lame that it makes a lame man with two lame legs look like a professional athlete, you geddit?

In fact, boosting is even more lame than my neighbours cat after he was hit by a car!!

The fact is that talking about boosting is as popular on this forum as talking about how great the SS uniforms were at a Jewish passover feast!

However, the fact remains that there are people out there who like this practice. They talk of 'levelling up' and 'unlocking perks and weapons' quickly. This it appears is a justification for this despicable practice.

SO, THIS IS THE PLACE TO DISCUSS BOOSTING AND ONLY HERE!

To those of you that abhor and detest the very sniff of boosting, please don't even bother reading any further or posting on this thread because you are going to post something that earns a ban. I've already rescinded one ban this morning relating to personal abuse of a Booster. You have been warned... :)

For the rest of you uber-cool, leet boosters, knock yourselves out, this thread is for you :)

wow, there is a little rant.

In fairness I know I'm a good CoD player. I dont need stats to tell me that, or some little emblem by my name.

The only thing that annoys me more then boosting is people who think they are instantly better then me because their stats are better.

Why dont we all get over it and play the game, its so funny hearing people online freak over getting a negetive score.

I take more pride in the fact I've lost about 10 games since starting playing, with over 100 victories.

TBH boosting happens big deal, i havnt experienced it, moaning and whinging wont solve it.

For the newbies out there (including myself), anyone care to explain exactly what constitutes boosting?

Boosting is a way of two teams mutually agreeing to cheat by getting lots of points together.

Necessitated by the number of people derailing threads by mentioning it unfortunately...when you mod this forum and end up having to placate people and conflict mediate thanks to someone talking about boosting it helps to let off steam :)
In fairness I know I'm a good CoD player. I dont need stats to tell me that, or some little emblem by my name.
In fairness, I'm an average player and I don't care at all about it, I just enjoy the game and my rank means nothing to me, nor does my k/d ratio because I'm just as likely to be drinking a cup of tea and eating a sandwich while I play as I am to be trying to kill other players :D

TBH boosting happens big deal, i havnt experienced it, moaning and whinging wont solve it.
The problem is that other threads are getting derailed by people moaning about it so...
...here's the place to discuss it. If people want to do it, it shouldn't matter to them that I think it's lame, I'm providing a place to discuss it in 'safety' where they won't get abused for talking about it. If they post about it in other threads then the thread goes way off topic and becomes a slagging-fest.

Lads, I'm deleting unconstructive posts. I was hoping my rant in the OP would be enough to make it clear what the regular users of this forum think of boosting. That should be enough.

    Thanks :)

Boosting, is where two players agree to allow each other to constantly kill one another to get level-ups, new weapons and perks by completing challenges.

e.g. You and I want to Boost.

We go online, select a class that has tactical insertion perk.
Tactical insertion allows you to select exactly where you respawn on the map.

    1. We find a nice quite corner of the map and go there.
    2. I light my tactical insertion flare so that I respawn at that point on the map.
    3. You shoot me in the head, increasing your headshot count for that weapon
    4. I respawn in the same place
    5. You shoot me in the head again.
    6. Repeat until you've got enough headshots to level-up or complete a challenge.
    7. Now you let me do the same to you.

We then get loads of points, level-up, unlock weapons and new perks and generally look like badasses :)

    and

I dont see anything wrong with the first method. I wouldnt mind doing it for a few levels. I only intend on using the sar-h and the AK.

without boosters there would be no one to annoy on double xp weekends and no purpose for c4 in the game. ;)

This is pretty much the same thing that happens in games such as World Of Warcraft, Boosting through instances, its accepted though and part of the game at this point. Then you have the more nefarious Arena team boosting.

i presume this whole thing started off by my post in the fmj thread and again, i appologise for it
i dont really think its bad i mean, the only person it affects is the person doing it noone else unless the person doing it happens to brag online pretending they got the stats themselves
    i dont do this
and yes, this goes on in WoW too and it doesnt effect anyone just like it doesnt in this game

    @ R3nu4l,

Why are you facilitating an anti-gaming practice in a gaming forum?

Quote: 'However, the fact remains that there are people out there who like this practice.'

Do we forsee a 'tax evasion' thread within the Boards.ie tax section soon? Where would you think is a suitable location for the 'wife beating' thread?

You do not have to facilitate this practice on the forum because a few spoilers want to discuss it. Look at the immediate reaction within the replies when this topic has previously reared its ugly head on the site.

I am pretty crap at this game. Mostly play free for all, within which I have not placed first in one game. Only level 22; Killstreak of a massive....4- yeah read and weep (in laughter I'd imagine); 1 win (TDM) and 69 losses (mostly FFA). But I accept that this is my level. And I will enjoy all my time attempting to improve.

It would be better if, despite your good intentions to cater for all, you lock this thread and include in your charter rules that talk of boosting shall not be tolerated in any of the Boards gaming forums. You do not want to be known as a website that has become a lonely hearts club for boosters!- 'Ok, meet you on friday.;) I'll be the one with the famas with no attachment'

Sorry for rant. I am just not in the mood to accommodate the Thierry Henries of this world at the moment!

well it does effect people if you use your kill streaks to launch attacks like choppers and the evil nuke. =ruins the game.

After spluttering all over with my monitor with rage I proceeded to hunt him down and KIA'd his ass for the next hour.

That seems like quite a good idea actually especially when you consider where your tax money has being going the previous few years, expenses, €75m and counting on e-voting machines that will never be introduced. My first reaction to the recent scandals was "bet bono is grinning now". A reference to his clever strategy of moving his business to switzerland to avoid paying tax here.(actually i dont know which country, lets just say somewhere else) I'd welcome a tax evasion thread. I recommend the "wife beating thread" should be placed in the beer, guts and receeding hairline forum. Best place for it.

I dont think boosting is comparable to power leveling in wow. As in wow the game really only begins when you're level 60 (or whatever the cap is now) whereas getting to level 70 in prestige is the finale of this game, well for me anyway. I think the only people getting upset are console gamers. As you can see your friends k/w ratio and they can see yours. Obviously theres going to be a competitive element to this, who has the best score etc. I mean the first thing i do in the morning is see who is the lowest on the friends list then post this on facebook and bebo letting everyone know what a **** gamer this guy is. Deservingly so, if you cant take abit of jostling/ slagging/ get overly sensitive then maybe the game isnt for you. You;re suppose to be 18 and over to play too. You can handle it

I know what you mean, someone boosting in a game is definitely the equivalent of a man beating his wife to a bloody pulp on a weekly basis. It's just as serious, I know...:confused:

This is just an experiment. It's worked in that there hasn't been any further mention of boosting in other threads since this one opened, whereas the other day we had a spate of them.

Last time I checked, there was no rule in law regarding boosting (there should be imo :)). So until there is a law forbidding it then we should consider the merits of otherwise of allowing discussion.

Banning talk of boosting will still result in people mentioning it on the forum. Boosting is no big secret and a quick visit to Youtube shows a whole host of videos with morons boosting left, right and centre  It's been going on for years. It's a tactic that's quite sad imo.
It would be better if, despite your good intentions to cater for all, you lock this thread and include in your charter rules that talk of boosting shall not be tolerated in any of the Boards gaming forums. Boosting is the 'elephant in the room'. It's there knocking over tables and making loud trumpeting noises but everyone steadfastly ignores it. Perhaps this thread will make some people realise exactly how much it enrages people and think twice...although I doubt it. In my experience, boosters are a pretty selfish bunch of people, much like all those idiots that exploited the UFO hack in COD4 recently.

However, I'll take your comments on board, have a think about it and discuss it with Stefanno (I think I already know what he'll say :pac:). One final thing. This would have been done much better by PM. Questioning a moderator decision on-thread is itself against the charter... ;) I'll indulge it this time because you feel so passionately about it, what with boosters in your eyes being the same as wife-beaters and all...
Sorry for rant. I am just not in the mood to accommodate the Thierry Henries of this world at the moment!

So who wants to boost with me :o:eek::p:p:p

It happens all over the place, was playing sabotage in terminial and there was one of my team mates boosting with another lad in the far corner around the back of the plane, i noticed that he was killing the same guy over and over again and the other guy kept re spawning there......lame.

sorry i should have said i only do this in a cage match so i dont piss people off
the reason i do it is because i just want to
not to go online and lie by saying i got the stuff with my 1337 skillz but its just to slag some friends who do it too
but people who boost in an actual match (like with a friend allowing them to get a 25 killstreak well yes i can understand thats pretty lame
    but i dont do that

gavredking, what time and map suits you? Eh, no strike that!:)

R3nu4l, my apologies for openly questioning your decision on the forum. Wont happen again.

Didnt really expect the inappropriate comparisons to be taken literally. But this is Boards. I'll attach a smilie next time. I also must apologise for sneakily inserting 'weekly' and 'to a pulp' between the lines. Shame on me!:)

I will PM you in future on this matter, if necessary. I have to accept boosting to appear on youtube- ok, but not to have a forum for discussion on the Boards gaming forum. Actually, where did I leave that youtube email address?

It was a legitimate complaint and one I'm very open to listening to, however, because of it, here we are derailing this very important boosting thread ;)
Didnt really expect the inappropriate comparisons to be taken literally.
Well I may have been deliberately misinterpreting what you said...
but not to have a forum for discussion on the Boards gaming forum.
Well as I say, nothing wrong with expressing your opinion, just that this thread wasn't the place to do it.

I'm going to tidy this thread in a few minutes by deleting this and a few other posts.

so ****n what if there is no rule on boosting it doesnt make it right.

    -boosting is cheating -

so ****n what if there is no rule on boosting it doesnt make it right.

    -boosting is cheating -

Cheating characteristically is employed to create an unfair advantage, usually in one's own interest, and often at the expense of others, Cheating implies the breaking of rules. I dont see how boosting in MW2 creates an unfair advantage or even harms others.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,505 ✭✭✭nevaeh-2die-4

you dont see how it makes for an un fair advantage ???????????

the people boosting will acquire all guns and perks.
they can keep calling in all types of air strikes and nukes with the kill streak.

so when they play a normal game they have all items that would take a normal gamer days to acquire, therfore making the game easier for them, come on man if you dont see that as a form of cheating you must one of those boosters your self.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,400 ✭✭✭✭r3nu4l

I agree with nevaeh...however, this thread isn't necessarily discussing whether it's cheating or not. I'm going AFK for a couple of hours, so please, please people, keep cool heads and don't do anything to get yourself banned :D

I reckon this thread may have run it's course anyway ;)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,256 ✭✭✭c0rk3r

This seems to be how most people are doing it now. As you can see you get 55k - 120k every 20 minutes or so.

Sure you could be on prestige with all the perks but be an incredibly bad player. Having the perks is no substitute for actually knowing how to play the game and having experience. ie when exiting the buildings on highrise look right or left, depending which direction your going to see if theres a guy on the crane, a guy beside the oil drum, or behind the elevator doors or even inside them. Having the perks doesnt mean anything if you cant aim or know where to aim or how the map is played. Having the nuke unlocked doesnt mean anything if you cant get the killsteak to launch it. Just because they have reached prestige 70 now doesnt mean anything.

I could go onto ebay and buy a level whatever rogue with legendary weapons that comes first in the arenas. That doesnt mean i could do the same thing with that character.

I dont boost, check a screenshot i posted on k/d ratio to confirm it. I dont have a problem with people boosting though as i see little point of its benefits only the brag factor.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,400 ✭✭✭✭r3nu4l

Okay, the mods have chatted and on the one hand, it's nice to allow people to talk about as many aspects of the game as possible, on the other, boosting is not only lame but it's cheating your way up the ranks...so from now on Boosting chat and talk is banned. :)

Thanks for following this little experiment!
