Anyone know what happened to zumpty.ie? Website is suspended. It got a load of publicity back in June/July with a photoshoot Rosanna Davison and a big deal with PIBA for insurance publicised on Sunday Business Post. It was launched by some guy called Gavin Dunne who posts on here I believe

It was a crap idea, always was. To be honest, I pulled him up in another post somewhere about his track record and couldn't find a thing about him bar bluff and bluster. I don't think the deal with the PIBA was such a big thing TBH. Again more bluff and bluster. Don't get me wrong, I like people to do well but for me this was never going to go anywhere.

i would say it might have been a money issue as well. Online websites like that are hard to pull off if your spending a big budget on offline advertising and paying staff wages, especially as you have to give a certain number of months free. They must have worked out that it would have cost a lot before they got a return. I have a similiar site ill be launching in january. Dont want to plug it now really as their are a few bugs to iron out and we havnt put the data in yet. Was a bit demoralising when you have been working on something for a year and two rich entrepreneurs come along with a similiar concept! With zumpty gone and ben dunne not involved in tender me anymore it should be easier. I suppose its good that they have made the general public aware of web sites like these. We dont have a budget like theres but we have worked hard trying to make our idea into something people will like using and if it works out then great, if not we go onto the next venture with more experience. (need a job done dot ie) is the site. Not going to properly plug it though untill everything is right. Feel free to throw critism but bare in mind its barebones at the moment.

Step you are some man. You dont like people to do well, do you want me to link 100 posts of your negativity? You are the epitome of a keyboard warrior. All you could say when I launched the site was your logo is crap.

What do you do? whats your business? how much money do you make? how many people do you employ? whats your qualifications? Why are you so constantly negative towards everything?
A 16 year old kid in school asks a question and you slag him or thank people for slagging him. Your attitude is pure poison for business and entrepreneurs.

You love to attack me whenever I post, what did I do to you? Did I pitch my business because I wanted it be a success? Yes I did. Is there something wrong with that? Havent you ever started a business before? Do you think its better to underpitch it or overpitch it? Do you think you'll get publicity if your underpitch it?

If you met me face to face I guarantee you wouldnt have the stones and pure ignorance to say some of the things youve posted on here. You would be embarrassed to be such a horrible individual. Or maybe thats just you in general. Your partner if you have one must be suicidal.

I employ over 70 people in 3 different companies in Asia. I am currently building a 5 star hotel resort on Boracay Island. You've seen the website. I have raised millions of euro in finance and put it all together from the age of 27 from scratch. Yet you sit behind your keyboard and call me a bluffer. Your a big man Stepbar.

We had a good start with zumpty, but it didnt materialize to the profits desired intially. Its not dead yet though, and theres a few options we are looking at right now. Im tied up with my construction here in asia so there is not a lot of free time.
Whether it works or not in the long run I gave it my best shot, so there are no regrets.

Great post :) Congrats on all your sucess to date Gavin & best of luck in the future. Stepbar is a typical example of why this country is still deep in recession.

Guess that means we've seen the last of zumty then El Rifle?
You mention that the profits didnt materialise - when did you project to be in profit? or even positive cashflow? I would have thought a seasoned internet pro like yourself would have factored in several years of loss making, while gaining user traction to build up, no?
What about trades people who signed up for the year - are they getting a refund?
I have to agree with previous poster - it all sounds like bluster without substance to me. If you are so busy with all your asian businesses, how did you find the time to launch a small site in a small island in the midst of the worst recession in living memory and then pull the plug on it after a few months??? This doesn't add up at all

    Tim

P.S. The PIBA thing was the worst idea about the site - why would brokers pay you to get the chance to discount their revenue to as close to zero as the most desperate broker was willing to go? - That just wasnt and isnt smart at all - you were boasting that the PIBA deal was worth over €100,000 per year to the site - major credibility gap there

Larry, he pulled the plug on the whole thing after a few months! Is this is the kind of behaviour that you think will pull us out of recession?
Personally I think Stepbar is calling this one right! I feel sorry for trades people who signed up and parted with their cash to a guy who doesnt seem to have the courage of his convictions!

That's your problem, you launched a site that could not deliver what it said on the tin.
You didn't have the businesses or user base and you didn't want to start off small and work your way up.
All talk and no action is how I would describe you.

Just having a go is not good enough any more. Hard work and people who are willing to take a risk will not save this country. We need to compete on a global stage, beat the guys who have a tiny cost base and country who spend billions on R&D.

The government is wrong on the knowledge economy, we don't have the population size to produce enough smart people, nor the money to give them the best education and attract the top academic brains.

We need to innovate to succeed, innovation costs very little, R&D costs billions and R&D can't make money with innovation.

I employ over 70 people in 3 different companies in Asia.

And you can't even pay your hosting charges?
Seriously. I think you are full of it. You came on this site looking for advice and opinions and you just didnt listen.

The site was designed badly, the logo was a joke, You didn't even think about SEO and you launched it far too early blowing a fortune on a PR campaign.

Marketing is important but the business infrastructure needs to be in place first.
It doesn't matter how may Rosanna Davidson's you have advertising your service!

If I was launching a business I would rather posters like Stepbar pointing out the flaws than posters coming on saying fair play to me and not been truthful.
A lot of money was lost here and it could have been avoided.

I wish you the best in the future but you need to listen to other peoples opinions or else this will not be your last failed business.

I'm quite shocked by this thread and by what I am perceiving as completely out of order attack and commentary on someone who has seem their business attempt fail.

It's completely against this site is ethos and intention imo, there is enough difficulty and knockers out there without cheap shots being taken in a "kick him when he is down mentality".

It's disgraceful in my humble opinion. We are here to support and encourage each other, there is no shame in failing, we all do stupid things or make bad calls.

    HT.
    :(

Hammertime - we're not knocking a guy when he's down. By his own admission, this guy is a big shot with business ventures employing over 70 people in asia, yet his hosting appears to be unpaid on his site.
A few months ago he came on here encouraging people to use his site and pay a subscription.
The site is down just a few months later and I guess anyone who paid an annual subscription is left out of pocket!

Lads please remember, Attack the post not the poster.

IMO it doesn't matter if El Rifle is Ben Dunne, Bill Gates or a random joe soap, he took a shot and so far it hasn't worked out.

I don't think it was idiotic from the start, but I'm sure he'd admit that mistakes were made (as they are with every single busness) and that he can learn from the mistakes.

I'm going to close the thread cause no good will come of it, If El Rifle wants me to reopen it just pm me.
