Barringer, apparently, took a nasty fall.

    Did something happen McCarthy too?

    David Rooney 58th in 30'32

    David McCarthy 70th in 30'47

    Breffni Twohig 64th in 21'03

Shock in the women's race that unbackable race favourite Jenny Barringer finished down the field in 163rd...haven't heard any race reports but wonder whether there was a fall involved.

I might have missed some of the Irish results

savage run by Rooney,he has been having an amazing season over int eh states.McCarthy was struggling with injuries and over training to get back into shape all season so his run wasnt a suprise, still thought he would be top 30 though.

I watched it live on TV. Coverage was terrible so no idea about McCarthy as they ignored all but the top 3 men.

Barringer didn't fall, she completely bonked and then collapsed. It didn't look good and she deserves huge credit for getting up and finishing at all. Sam Chelanga was a class apart from the rest of the field.

Basically herself and Kuijkin took off at a serious pace. I think the commentator said they hit the 1k point in about 3.01 which is crazy over 6k cross country. Barringer went to maybe halfway and then had to stop, followed by the collapse.

Kuijkin went to 5k and then bonked too, getting caught and digging deep to keep in third.

I said it on another thread McCarthy was run into the ground when he was suffering from the flu and after the Notre Dame race he kept getting relapses. At the level hes competing at this will have a huge effect just look at where German Fernandez finished around 100th place unthinkable for an athlete of his class. Just goes to show at NCAA if you are not 100% healthy you are in big big trouble. Lads in nearly 200th place where running 30.30. Imagine if some athlete here ran 30.30 on the road it would be reguarded as a great run.

If he was run into the ground would he have been able to perform as well as he did in a fairly solid region (4th)?

As I said maybe the post missed this but prior to Notre Dame when he had the flu I did not state that he was run into the ground the whole way true as he did no workouts leading up until races which meant he recovered but lost fitness as he only ran 8 to 10 miles a day. 4th in a solid region is good but McCarthy on top form would win that region ahead of Shierdan or at least 2nd and finish top ten at ncaa if things went is way

And when I mean run into the ground Im refering to David having to run when sick for college points.
