what we get now will still be free,
sony are thinking of adding "premium" service in addition to this.

As long as they kept basic multiplayer and such free I suppose it wouldn't be too bad.

I could see a problem where "premium" members get access to special weapons/abilities in games that gives them an unfair advantage over normal members. That'd be shít.
The only way for it to be fair would be to have premium only servers, similar to games only for those who get expansion packs etc.

It'd be interesting to see what they come up with that would actually be an incentive to pay, but I'd say they're better off just leaving it.

Yeah it would be a big misteak for them to charge for basic PSN services, so im really glad their not going down that route. They would have to offer a lot at a good price to get me interested at all.

It really depends on what Sony charge for:

-if they go the route of Microsoft and charge for the ability to play online games expect to see nerd-rage of undefinable proportions, thats been held up as the greatest strength of the PS3 for the past few years (this year its been the exclusives they released).
-if they charge for extra stuff, like giving those "Premium Themes" for free to subscribers, or free release day demos to PSN games (the demos usually pop up weeks after the main game is released), than thats a good move.

XBL eclipses PSN in a LOT of ways, mainly due to the increased revenue pumped into it by the Gold subscribers, Sony are playing catchup right now, they need to focus on building the platform more.

Given the excellent level of service I get from PSN at the moment (in comparison to the abysmal XBL service), I would pay for a premium service.

I can't really think of anything that would be worth paying extra for. Better servers? They are saying they won't be taking anything away from the free service, so what on earth could the premium features be?

    Really?

Perhaps premium members might have more of a say in what should be included in future updates? Or something more simple like greater discounts on classic games and such.

if it helps the service grow i would pay. ive practically moved to xbl purely because of party chat and filing complaints etc. however, i still prefere the ps3 overall.
party chat doesnt seem to matter in mw2 anyway. oh and the way you can invite your friends to games on xbox is better. when sony get up to scratch with this i will donate my elite to a poor kid. oh and when my friends get a ps3 as most of them have xbox (reason i own both lol)

That's probably one of the reasons we dont pay for psn, they are making a nice amount of money from home.....
