Are the cinemas open on Christmas Day?

    I couldve sworn I saw a poster for a film and the release date for it was Dec 25th.
    Anybody know if the cinemas are open here on crimbo day?

    It's possibly it'll be released on 25th (I remember a couple of big films over the last few years getting Christmas Day releases *), but you won't see it til the 26th.

    no there not, its a public holiday every in ireland and most things are closed! there be the odd shop here and there but that be it
    no one would go to the cinema really on christams day!
    but in usa they are. christmas is as big a deal there as it is here!

    Yeah that must be it. Although I think its only a matter of time before they do open on christmas day. I mean not so long ago shops didnt open on sundays here.......

    I would, and have, saw Titanic on Christmas Day back in 97 when i was in the States, aint jack **** else to do on xmas day, you're probably watching a movie anyway

    Those films listed as Christmas releases for 2008 above are the American release dates- e.g. Benjamin Button wasn't released here til February.

    Films generally get Stephens' Day releases here, Sherlock Holmes being an example this year.
