4th Provisional / 1st Learner Permit Question

Hi guys. Quick question for ye. I've had three provisional licenses up until now. The most recent one expired Oct 2008. I would now like to apply for a new one / learner permit. Does anyone know how I should go about doing this? Will I simply call up to the local Motor tax office with some new photos and my old license? Or will I need to start from scratch, theory test etc.

The last time renewing my provisional (3rd), I needed to produce proof that a Full test application had been made. Is this rule still in place? When I checked the RSA testing website for applications, one of the bits of info it needed was a permit no., which I don't currently have. So presumably I must get my permit first??

Just to follow up on this in case anyone else is in the same position. I dropped in to my local Motor Tax office who told me that the Driver No. on the first page of my out of date 3rd provisional is a unique number that doesnt change from license to license, and that I could apply for the test using this number as my "learner permit number".

I then went on to the RSA driving test application website when I noticed some more small print (not that small in fairness) which said applicants needed to ensure that the driver number / permit number supplied was from a valid, in date permit. So I rang up the helpline to tell them that the Motor Tax office said this, you guys are saying that etc etc. And I was told by the helpful RSA lady, after she ran a check on my records, that indeed I can use this number. Presumably because the license is not out of date > 5 years as you mentioned Donegalfella.

So the applications been made now, all sorted. Hopefully I dont get a date for my test too soon though, I'm gonna need 3/4 months at least!
