At the moment -my favorite haunt is Kettles for their bar menu and its two miles outside swords on the ashbourne road.

    http://www.kettleshotel.ie/index.php

We normally get out of there for 40 -50 euro including my sirloin steak and chocolate fudge cake, dinner and a glass or 2 of Merlot for herself.

Wrights cafe bar do a great homemade burger for 3 euro with bacon and cheese and its just across from the pavilions and its on till 9 at night during the week.

Has anyone come across good early bird deals in Dublin City and Northside that are worth a shot. We used to go to La Cucina or the bloody stream in Howth for fish as I am dead boring and go to places I am used to.

My favorite City Centre is Dobbins - just off Lower Mount Street -this was the mecca of the media and advertising types during the Celtic Tiger Era.

I met a friend in advertising recently who is a foodie and mentioned Dobbins and his eyes glazed over as he talked about the old days and how he practically had lived there.

The early bird menu's are excellent and I had smoked salmon and duck -both which were excellent.

    Dobbins Opening Times

    LUNCH
    Monday - Friday 12.30pm - 2.30pm
    Table D'Hote €23.50
A La Carte Menu also available
    Sunday Lunch €25.00

    12.00pm - 3.00pm
    DINNER
    Early Bird Tuesday - Saturday
    6.00pm - 7.00pm
    Early Bird Menu €25.00

Here is a link to the menus and you should book.

The prices will go up for the Xmas specials and they are still good. There is a service charge of 10% so budget for that as its not included.

We probably should expand on this with whats good for Happy Hours too.

Not my forte but Drink Aware does not include Pocket Aware.

    Anyone care to kick off.

I have done the Findlaters/La Cucina thing and they are great and especially good for gluttonous fish lovers -which I'm not.

    I must try the House.

How good and whats the menu like?

Haven't been in a long while but madina on mary street do very nice Indian/Pakistani food and it used to be very cheap.

Possible drawback is that they don't serve alcohol because its a Halal restaurant.

Again another Indian Recommendation. The Indian Ocean on Montague Street (that runs between Camden St. and Harcourt St.) has many good deals going but one in particular is where it's two starters, two mains and a bottle of wine for 40yoyos. This offer is on all day, every day. It's a smart restaurant too and gives you a the good feeling of having gone out for a proper meal but without murdering the wallet. Clean shop with smart clean service. They may even throw in a complimentry afters...such as bailey's or sambucca.

Green 19 on Camden St. is a cracking little restaurant serving local and seasonal dishes. Short simple menu where all mains are under a tenner and you can get a reasonable bottle of plonk for 16squids. Not bad value for the quality of food and service.

Himself likes Bonga on Camden Street - it's an all you can eat buffet for €18 mon-wed. Beer is quite cheap for a restaurant too... Wine selection not so good...

I prefer China House on Parnell street opposite the rear of the ILAC. Very friendly and very cheap.

Neither are very romantic, but ideal for a meal before the cinema!

The new menu in the Cock Tavern on Swords main street is delicious and fairly cheap. They do american style food.

Check out Dublin Bus Ticket Thursdays, on today and next Thursday. Me and a mate had a meal in Wagamama last Thurs and got 2 mains for the price of one, saved about 13E :D

If you dine in Howth often, there is The Big Blue hamburger restaurant. Decent cheap food, claim to rival Elephant & Castle with their chicken wings and...it's BYO! Free corkage until Christmas too.

Wow -thanks I must try. I love chicken wings. The OH found the right sauce for them and I pigged out on a bucket of them during the summer.

    I even wore a bib.:)

Madina have a new Deli open, upstairs from their foodstore on Parnell street.
It is something like a fiver for a curry to take out.
Which might be handy for lunch if you work in the city centre.
