The Japanese Popstars are riding a wave of great live gigs, major festival bookings, and media praise off the back of their amazing energy driven live shows and their critically acclaimed debut album 'We Just Are'.

Native to Northern Ireland (any fetishists expecting cute Japanese girls can leave now), and consisting of Declan McLaughlin aka Decky Hedrock, Gary Curran, and Gareth Donoghue. The Japanese Popstars are signed to bespoke indie label, Gung-Ho Recordings (Gus Gus, Zoo Brazil) in the UK, and Beatink in Japan (home of Underworld, Aphex Twin, Cinematic Orchestra).

The Japanese Popstars only parallel with rock music is that they'd built up a sizable live following before releasing their first major single - some might even say cultish, judging by the amount of clips on Youtube. Their gigs are typically raucous affairs, with an energy that crackles with each beat, chord, and keyboard stab.

However, let's get one thing straight about the music - The Japanese Popstars aren't indie rave, or any other sub-sub-sub genre, theirs is big room, cool as f**k electronic music built for festivals and stadiums. They're not dance kids aping indie kids, nor are they indie kids dropping synths and calling themselves 'ravers'.

Over the past year the band have remix the likes Beyonce, The Ting Tings, Shinichi Osawa, Pete Tong, The Music, Depeche Mode, Benny Benassi, The Editors and Groove Armada, as well as taking thier energy fueled live show to many major clubs and festivals around the world!

The Japanese Popstars - back to the future dance music for today, tomorrow, and forever, and it's coming to a field near you very soon.

    Casette jam biog

Cassette Jam propelled themselves onto the Global Dance scene after winning the Cream International Search for a DJ Competition in 2006. They destroyed the competition with their unique eight decks and two mixers techno show. They travelled across four continents, smashing to bits the biggest festivals and clubs with their infamous and energetic, no holds barred approach to DJing.
As word of Cassette Jam spread they were asked to lay down remixes for the likes of Alex Gopher, Ladytron, The Whip & Does It Offend You Yeah? These remixes received the support of some of the scene’s biggest players like Erol Alkan, Radio 1’s Annie Mac & XFM’s Eddy Temple Morris. The tracks have been smashing dance floors and radio shows across Europe.
The natural progression from their standout remixes was laying down original material…the boys duly obliged. Their first four-track demo resulted in them being snapped up by Pieces of Eight Records in June 2008.
Cassette Jam are already working on their debut album and took over the Ibiza 2008 summer with their residency at Ibiza Rocks, Cream nights at Amnesia and Dance Rocks nights with Eddy Temple Morris. Back home they continue to play out at the coolest nights around the UK including Wax On, The Warehouse Project and Chibuku Shake Shake. They’ve also got residency at the O2 Academies.
Picked to front and judge the Budweiser 2008 Rising Talent competition, culminating at Manchester’s now infamous Warehouse Project on New Years Eve, the boys from Leeds are showing new artists how it’s done.
Their sound is new wave indie electro, plenty of analogue rollercoasting and vocals from the tattooed underbelly of counterculture.
Cassette Jam’s debut Single’s ‘Retox’ and ‘Don’t Lose Control’ are out now on pieces of eight records. These releases have been championed by Annie Mac, Annie Nightingale, Jaymo & Andy George, Alex Gopher, Erol Alkan, Meat Katie, A Trak and Justin Robertson just to name a few. One word of advice:
Be prepared!!!...Cassette Jam will shove a rocket up the music scene’s arse.
