Ryanair - ski boots in hand luggage

    Hi all,

Did a search on this all over the web and its still pretty inconclusive...

What is the story with bringing ski boots as hand luggage on board Ryanair flights? I know its not meant to be their policy to allow it, but so long as your hand luggage is below the 10kg is it enforced?

    Flying Dublin to Milan...

    Any experiences on this?

    Cheers

Once the weight is under 10kg and the bag fits in the frame, the only objection would be a security one. AFAIK that comes under the management of each airport. i came back through Gatwick last month with boots in hand luggage (aer lingus) no problem, and the security that day was a nightmare.

we intend to bring our boots this season as hand luggage, everything else in the ski/board bag

    Should be OK,

Grenoble and Chamary airports tend to have a thing about ski boots in hand luggage but the rest of them seem ok with it at long as it fits the airlines weight, and size policy

    Cool - thanks guys!

bTW, flights to Milan from Dublin in Jan can be had for €80 return with bags and fees included. 3hour transfer to the dolomites from there and this is turning into a rather affordable holiday!

Flights booked, finger's x'd on the hand luggage!

I flew with mine in hand lugage last year with ryanair to salzberg no problem!!!

altho after the experience of the weigt we,ve decided that our boots and helmets are going in a hard suitcase and onto the plane...and then clotes in another suitcase!!! as little as possible for hand luggage!!!

Just wondering, what would be the story if you actually wore your ski boots in the airport?

I have this really stupid ambition to go skiing without carrying any luggage at all, just what I can carry in my pockets.

You wont be allowed board with ski boots, reason : in an emergency evac, you would slow every else down

More than someone in high heels? I don't think so.

Interesting idea, I wonder if the same would be true for snowboard boots. Sure, wear some baggy ski pants over them and they'd just look like a rather large pair of normal boots.

Definitely can't see any reason not to travel in snow boarding boots. Heck, my hiking boots are probably heavier and stiffer.

Ski boots if the plane was to go down in water would drag you down and be a pain in d ar*e 2try get off while in the water.... definitely a safety hazard!!!

Although my auntie wasn't going to be allowed Bergamo with heals shes only just bought in her hand luggage so she put them on and nothing could be said....reason....deadly weapon when in hand luggage but clearly not when on feet...there is a few loop holes around security so im sure there is some way you could get them through!!!
