Hi There,

I have recently moved back to Ireland after living in the UK for a while. I have been working with a employer I have worked for in the past. My salary has been reduced by 15% from €40,000 to €34,000. If that wasn’t bad enough, I think I am paying to much tax. The accounts staff here have been VERY VAGUE on when I brought this up.

A breakdown of my pay slip is:

Total Pay: 2833.33
Total Gross: 2833.33
PAYE: 414.17
Income Levy: 56.67
PRSI ee: 204.63
Payment 2157.86
PRSI er: 304.58

I have gone on the following two websites and each show different figures:

http://taxcalc.eu/ shows take home of € 2310.35

http://www.deloitte.ie/tc/ shows take home of €2,338.00</SPAN>

I am single, no kids and renting accommodation.

I am totally confused with all of this and would highly appreciate if anyone on here could advise.

Many thanks

It looks like they're not applying your tax credits correctly, you may be on a "week one" basis. Did you apply for a certificate of tax credits from Revenue when you arrived back in Ireland?

You are only getting a tax credit of €1,830 which is the single individual tax credit. You also should be due the Paye tax credit of another €1,830. These are annual credits and will be time apportioned. i.e. monthly tax credit should be €305 not €152.50 that you are currently getting. Ring up your local tax office youself and they can change this for you or will explain why they are not giving you all your credits.

You can also apply from tax credits through ROS.ie once you've registered with them

You can also obtain more tax credits by applying for rent relief.

I agree with the previous post.

You should be able to get the following tax credits at a minimum:
Single person 1830
Employee credit 1830
Rent credit 400 *
Total credits 4,060

*assuming you are under 55 and pay more than 2000 rent pa. If paying less than 2000, the credit is 20% of the rent paid. If over 55, the credit is 20% of the lower of (a) your rent paid or (b) 4000.

Don't forget also that you might be able to claim a service charge credit (worth €80 pa), a trade union credit (worth €70 pa) and possibly an employment expense credit, depending on your employment.
