    Hello -

I bought a beautiful Second hand Charvel Jackson a few years ago, in Excellent condition from a guy who never played it. I spent about 150 quid to get it serviced a couple of years ago, at Derrick Nelson's shop in Rathfarnham. The machineheads are branded Jackson but the head is branded Charvel by Jackson. The body is a bright red Precision shaped.

I have no idea what the bass is worth, or what year is it from, but I would like to pass it on and get me a new one.

What exactly are Charvel? Are they the Squier of Jackson? I can't find any info on the internet on them. can you help?

    Many thanks :)

Nope.....Charvel were basically the same company. They are not inferior to Jackson. If it has Jackson tuners and Charvel on headstock, then it's probably late 80's. Probably made in Japan, even if neck plate says 'Made in USA'

Company started in the USA by a guy named Charvel. He sold it to an employee called Jackson. They were the same company at this stage, untill Japanese bought the Charvel end and shipped all the stock to Japan.

    Thanks for that :)

It is in excellent condition and I was thinking of selling it to get a a 3/4 Bass ( I have rather small hands ) to play with instead.

The Charvel is only my 2nd bass, I had a Squier Precision I had bought in 1997 that was passed on to my brother years ago, and I miss it terribly.

Right now though I think a smaller size bass would suit me better but the Sound of the Charvel is quite good... I don't want to regret letting it go.

Any idea what the Charvel are worth?

Always check ebay. But those Jap 80's models in good condition between €300 to €400. But in this country at the moment, closer to €300.

Throw up a pic or two of it on here. Just out of curiousity.
