WWE Commentators

Whats your opinion of the standard of WWE Commentators lately?

I don't actually watch WWE weekly as I don't have Sky, and rarely see full PPVs, but from what I've seen lately, and as I've seen many people say in various threads, Matt Striker is probably the best at the moment. The only heel commentator going, which means there's usually an actual discussion between whoever he's commentating with, rather than both commentators just sitting there hoping the face wins, and making it seem like the face is overcoming big odds.

There needs to be a heel commentator. This Lawler and Cole thing just isn't working. Lawler and JR constantly arguing, Lawler making outlandish claims and jokes and JR givng out to him. Watching the PPVs from 2000 just showed how great they were together. I know, Lawler is a Hall of Famer, big face nowadays, but he'd still be popular as a heel commentator. Always was, always will be.

Cole has terrible delivery, and now that the "WWE Universe" has copped on to lines he constantly uses, whoever feeds him lines makes him keep using them. He's like a broken record week in week out, and I think he'd benefit from switching with JR. Plus, having Cole on Raw with all the 'crazy' stuff that happens because of DX/Guest Hosts/Hornswoggle is a bad idea. The whole fake laughing thing is just terrible

    In my opinion:
Raw - JR and Lawler - Great team, even if Lawler was only slightly heelish, would be brilliant
Smackdown - Cole and Striker - Gives Cole a whole new set of wrestlers to call which means over half the lines he constantly uses will be out the window, plus a great heel commentator to work with. Could be a great team
ECW - Grisham and Matthews (or the guy who's been calling it since Striker replaced JR the last few weeks, I hear he's pretty good)

The general consensus does seem to be that Striker has something that should see him in the commentary booth for a long time. being a heel does help as does being a fresh voice but he comes across as someone who knows what he is talking about too and can get it across without just spouting catch phrases... that was a vintage slobberknocker with puppies!

Ive a feeling they may try and find a way of keeping Striker on SD when Jr is back healthy.

I'll admit to never really being a fan of Cole but he does probably get too much stick and has been at the WWE for a long time now so i dont see him going anywhere just yet. Having said that, id love to see JBL back too.

    id have:

    King/JBL on Raw
    JR/Striker on SD
Cole +1 on ECW... but thats just me

The guy on ECW`s name is Byron Saxton (I think)
    Raw: JR/King
    Smackdown: Stryker/Cole
    ECW:Matthews/Saxton.

JBL was a great commentator. The amount of stick he gave Cole was brilliant!!!

    For me, I'd have:
    Raw: Cole/King
    SD: JR/Striker/JBL
    ECW: Grisham/Matthews

Striker is the best they have at the mo, Lawler is useless, he was amazing when he was a heel back in the 90's and gave endless stick to the Hart family and whoever else he didnt like, now he's just not funny and has an unhealthy obsession with the divas. Cole is utterly useless, and having met him in real life, a complete knob. I loved how Striker ripped the piss out his stupid catchphrases last night "controlled frenzy" indeed. JR is a shadow if his former self, same old catchphrases and sayings but still good when he needs to be.

    I like Stryker

He reminds a bit of Jesse Ventura back in the day.

Stryker is definitely their best commentator right now.

Was it Grisham or Matthews he did ECW with?

They were the best commentary team since Cole/Tazz's heyday.

Striker and Cole as a team doesn't work. Cole has been teamed with "characters" throughout his career, which has led him to develop a hysteric pitch in his voice. Striker has mainly worked with Grisham and Matthews, which meant he didn't have to put any effort in to matching them in terms of uniqueness. If that makes any sense at all. Besides the problem with the differences in pitch, I think there's also a problem in that there is no alpha male between the two. Its the wrestling nerd meets the wrestling dweeb.

Striker and Grisham were an excellent team. They should be the voices of RAW.

Lawler is just plain boring now, like seriously i hate how he has to act all stupid.
take for example when DX returned a few months ago,Lawler kept saying to Cole "oh the crowd love these guys Michael, why is this?"

"WHY IS THIS"?? wtf?? werent you around the whole attitude era Jerry!? seriously whoever fed him that crap was a clown

plus him & Coles love for Cena is a bit OTT lol

i like Striker alot, its good to have a heel commentator and the new guy on ECW is pretty goo.

Striker is good but he needs to stop making so much crap up. It gets annoying. JR is missed. King is terrible these days. The rest I pay very little attention to. Barely notice them.

Striker is best of a bad bunch, he needs to realise his audience and tone down the educational or obscure references a touch

As much stick as I give Cole these days at least we're not still stuck with Vince commentating on Raw. Jesus, I hate watching old episodes of Raw because of it. King was a great commentator but he's just that "something" that made him great. His feud with ECW was probably his peak. His lack of interest was pretty obvious at Survivor Series when Striker threw him the odd question intending to let King go off on his usual rants but instead he just answered with one word. Might have been that he was a little uncomfortable sitting between Cole & Striker given the obvious animosity between the two (like in the brilliant "what's a controlled frenzy" comment from Striker).

Also, Striker ever so slightly justifying the heels actions at Survivor Series (esp in the Miz/Morrison match) was just incredible.
