2 guards redirecting traffic due to flood south of ardrahan, co. galway. Tow truck parked up and cars queing up outside truck. Truck decides to pull away and 2nd guard appears waving wand. The guy behind me and I misinterpret this signal as 'come up the inside' and start to undertake, guard gets irate, we stop and wait our turn. I roll down window and clarify redirection, he responds grumpily and calls me a 'f**kin twat'. Genuine mistake - remark was completely Out of order. From my limited experience this provoking, condescending attitude appears to permeate the force. Is this instilled in trainee gardai as a way to leverage a sense of power over the public or is it simply widespread abuse of power. Am I the only disgruntled taxpayer???

    Complain to the Garda Ombudsman.

The following is in the charter:

    # If you have a complaint relating to an emergency service, you are advised to follow the formal channels in place for that service rather than pursuing it here.
