FE1/Training Contract - Gaps

I am considering taking 4 FE1's in March and another 4 in October, but most likely will have to then work full time (not law related) for a couple of years to save money...have been a mature student for the last 3 years and my finances are in a sad state.
To be honest, when I checked out the costs to train, (e.g. PPC1 at approx. €8,500, I think?) it nearly stopped me in my tracks. So, I will definitely have to earn for a while to help cover this.

I know that your FE1's are valid for a 5 year period, but do you think firms would look unfavourably on a possible 2+ year gap between exams and actually seeking a training contract? (I realise this might be an unintentional prospect for some at the moment, with the current climate). Even the practical consideration of forgetting much of what I would have learned at undergrad and FE1's over a couple of years might be relevant?

At 37, I would prefer not to have to intentionally delay things this way, but unless my numbers come up in the lottery soon...not much choice.

If you got a contract with a firm you really shouldn't have to pay for PPC yourself - even small firms can be willing to pay for it.

I doubt that really,,in these times you would be lucky to get a contract not to mind actually finding a firm that is willing to pay your fees....

I think it varies with the size of the firm. But at every firm that I've looked at they pay your PPC costs at the very least. Some also offer bursaries (5000 euro I heard) to allow you to go on to further education with less cost to yourself and pay your FE-1 fees too.
