Strange sort of question...

I'd ask this in Fashion and Appearance but I don't think a lot of the people in there would be regularly washing out dental materials...

So in college the other day one of the dentists managed to shoot some sort of temporary restorative material all over my trousers. I'm not entirely sure what it was but I've washed the trousers twice and the stain doesn't seem to be coming out at all. Big dark marks down the legs and my tutor would murder me if I came in with them on.

Any of you know how I might get this stuff off? I wouldn't mind only I only have two pairs of uniform trousers and it was my 3rd day on clinics. :(

what were you getting done? it'd be easier to narrow down if we knew what was being done. can't think of any temp filling that's dark off the top of my head though, or how the hell it landed that far away from the target!!

Ballsy, I think this person is a student dental nurse. What was the material the dentist was using? Usually if you get something on your trousers in the dental clinic, as a rule it doesn't come out. Ask me how I know, and how many pairs of pants it took me to establish this theory.

Most dental materials mix two powders/liquids/pastes together that set hard, if you get it on your trousers and it does not set and come off cleanly as one piece, it will not come out....ever, doesnt matter if you boil them in acid all these materials stains like you would not believe.

I buy roughly 20-30 scrub pants or dark trousers a year cause after a month working they look like a house painters rag.

This is the first time in 4 years on the dental issues forum this has come up, nice to see something different.:D

Yeah I'm a student dental nurse! Sorry should've made that clear. It wasn't a black material, it was just coming up black and greasy on my navy trousers.

The dentist had taken off an old crown and was placing a temporary until the next appointment. It was in a silicon gun type thing and he didn't fix the nozzle properly so it exploded all over the place while he was trying to put it in the impression he'd taken earlier. These words probably make no sense altogether but I don't have my notes on me and I'm a noob... :o

Annnnyway it's not coming out. Feck it so, on my third day. Murphy's law... I didn't think to leave it to set but I'm happy in the knowledge that the dentist destroyed his trousers too. :p

Ha fitz I was debating whether to post it at all cos I'd never seen anything like it here. I'm sure you'll be getting lots of questions from me over trivial stuff like this over the next 2 years. Thanks! :)

it Sounds like protemp or one of the automix type composite temp crown materials, yeah they leave a oily residue, I have made that same mistake many many times...the lesson here is to check the lock on the nozzle is fixed properly each time.

Or sit out of the operator's line of fire. :p

I have no dental experience whatsoever, but I do have experience of oily substances. It might be a bit late now, but try squidging neat washing up liquid into the stain and rubbing it well before washing.

or never ever spend more than 20yoyo on work clothes. between impression materials and milton i'm trying to figure out which is worse.
i wouldn't mind but the only reason i made that resolution is cos i was doing an extraction that went flying and landed on my knee. blood always washes out.
i was thinking at work a few years ago that there should be a company that'd make medical clothes but instead of just plain green and blue, have loads of little rusty red dots or blue and purple impregum stains, and alginate powder stains. just so that when it's clean, it still looks crap!

Sorry to hi-jack the Strange question thread. But I have a question that is a little random I suppose. Wondering if anyone can help.

Back in August I had my upper back right tooth extracted, the gum itself is healing nicely, but there is still a bit of a hole. Now my wisdom tooth is coming down in its place, and what im wondering is will the gum (still with the hole) be able to house the erruptin tooth or will it be wobbly and cause problems or fall out?

Sorry again for the random post
