I was just wondering can you transfer into the garda from other forces or do you have to apply and start from the begining?

unfortunately there is not a transfer option, everyone has to start from scratch. what police are you hoping to transfer from?

In the PSNI but I'm originally from down south so was just wondering for the future. PSNI is great but all the family is down south so was just wondering for future reference.

As quoted directly off www.garda.ie :

Can a police officer from another country transfer in? No, there is no internal transfer process. You must go through the normal recruitment process.

    Nope Im afraid :(

In the long term - it may be a possibility allegedly. Apparently it's a lot to do with transfer of pension from UK to ROI. But who knows - that could be just one of many reasons.

Having been in both forces, the laws etc are different enough, court system, etc, that training from scratch would be of benefit whichever force you restart in. It's a shame they don't introduce an expedited version tho.

i think that's kinda sad because the wealth of experience and everything else you can gain from another force is unreal. I have seen this it give you a whole other way of looking at thing.
