Just wondering if anyone knows of J1 or J2 coaches that are getting paid. I reckon there's none but got stung into a €20 bet last night that there's a handful.

Anyone know if junior teams have paid coaches, or for that matter, what's the going rate for a senior coach?

Yes there is a lot of junior rugby coachs getting paid, in all the provinces. and they are getting good money too.
I don't want to say the ones I know as its not my place to put their names out in the public domain.

Fairly common knowledge too - why would coaches put up with 100+mile round commutes several times per week - not just for the fun of it ;)

There is definitely coaches at J1& J2 level getting paid. Was involved with a j4 team a few years ago and went to meet a coach who was intersted in coaching a J4 team and he stated that the going rate for J1 & J2 was between €5000 - €7000. J3 & J4 was between €2000 - €4500. Not bad money at all.....

Some coaches will look for €5000-7000 to coach even a J3 or J4 team nowadays.

That's just madness, especially at J2 and lower. So much for the club coming first!

His attitude was that as he had completed Level 1/2 & 3 coaching courses that he had earned the right to command such fees.

I'm doing some coaching with a J4 team in west Dublin at the moment but It's for free until I get enough experience for myself at which I will move up a few leagues. (Get a odd free international ticket but that's about it).

    What about Senior Clubs then?
If they're paying a senior coach, will the junior coaches get paid also?

Absolutely. They would need to. If a club has a 1st team playing AIL, then their 2nd team is say J1/J2. If their 2nd team performs anyway decent, they will be in the shop window for clubs that have their 1sts playing in Leinster Div 1/2. So to stop clubs coming in for them they would pay them and then also involve them with the 1sts.

Another way that senior clubs would do it, is, by getting a 1sts player to coach their J1/J2 and then make him a fully paid coach. That's another way off getting around it.

This is one of the reasons that clubs have numerous sponsors. The money they take from one could cover their coaching costs. Take for example Terenure. If you have ever been down to their ground and look around the signs at their firsts pitch. They have about 15 different sponsors.
