    Hi All

My Dad is considering one of these at the moment has his next car. He was initially after a A4 Multitronic but is gone off them due to poor reliability.

Anyone have advise or experience of them , I dont know alot about them tbh .

I think they changed the engine in them to a TD4 at some stage.

The year his looking at is 2001/2002/2003/2004

i like them but i have heard bad things about early engines. My father is on his 3rd one from new. 4 head gaskets in his first 2. Newer one are stop on i think. Do your homework on it.

Would the freelander share engines and gearboxes with the Disco? Must say I like the look of the Discovery as well.

Diesel would be the most reliable of them mechanically. I dunno about the gearbox. If it's the same one as the 75 uses that's not too bad by all accounts but the rest of the car is a bit of a mine field

disco and freelander with same gearboxes ?? no way...discos are too powerful for them and with the off road tech too the freelander gearbox would never handle it :P

The OP's dad is put off by the poor reliability of the A4, but is looking at a Landrover Freelander? The mind boggles

I wouldnt touch one with a ten mile long bargepoll. Steer well, well clear.

I was more referring to the multitronic system in the A4 V the auto box on the freelander. He would have gone for the A4 but have heard to many horror stories about the audi's gear system.
