Yep that's the one I am looking at, no mention that there is a specialist orthodontist there however the prices are specialist prices, Seems to be a general dental practice, however I dont have enough information from the website alone. I have deleted links to websites, please read the charter rules.

Please also note and this is not aimed at you in particular pablop, that if I or any of the moderators on the dental issues forum discover that any shilling, advertising, false recommendations or marketing is going on, I will point it out on this thread and this thread will appear high up on any Google search for a particular clinic. This will not look good for that clinic

I am just looking for genuine opinion..doesnt have to be posted anyone can PM me, I dont wan to do any advertising, looking for opinion coz their prices for braces are lower than in some other clinincs, and thats why I am wondering if behind these low prices isnt bad service

I'd also be interested in hearing about them. I'm looking to get Veneers done and they seem to have the best prices. Can anyone advise me on them? I'm thinking of going with them or Smile in D1 - but they are slightly more expensive

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32 pablop

Prices are very low... what concerns me I met on the internet opinion that better go to qualified orthodontist than to dentist who does orthodontics.. i am not sure but i think doctor in this clinic is just dentist who does orthodontics but maybe i am wrong

Why do you want veneers,Irish? Presumably you want them on your front teeth to improve their appearance.
    Going with the cheapest? :D:p:eek::confused:
If all smilies don't look alike, it may follow that all veneers don't either. Before you allow someone to file down your front teeth and stick bits of porcelain on them I urge you to do more rsearch.

    I second everything Georgie says!
Do you get the cheapest haircut available? If not why not (at least it'll grow out in a few weeks, veneers/crowns/most dental treatment should last you years so I would go for the best quality I can afford not the cheeapest. But thats just my opinion

Well I'm not looking for rubbish work on my teeth! I'm just going on the fact that in general Irish prices for dental work are ridiculously high so there would be room to shop around. Northern Ireland is significantly cheaper than Dublin but it doesnt mean its bad work, just lower running costs. I want a good job done but just dont wanna be ripped of cause I didnt bother investigating the alternative

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9,535 ✭✭✭btkm8unsl0w5r4

Veneers are like a painting, its not the paint or canvas that matter its who does the work. And unfortunatly cheap veneers means cheap laboratory work which means lesser quality outcomes (top dentists and top laboratory technicians just work for this kind of cost). It depends on what you want. If you want a OK outcome thats fine, if you want as close to perfection as possible and veneers prepared by a good dentist or specialist and made by one of the top technicians in the world its going to close a lot of money. This is true anywhere in the world, ireland north and south.

Please for opinion, I would like to get there coz prices are really good, in other clinics the want around 5000€

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9,535 ✭✭✭btkm8unsl0w5r4

I think people have given an opinion above if you read it, it may not be the opinion you want.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32 pablop

Dentists there aren't from Ireland, I think they are from some arabic country (didnt ask, but the one I saw looked like arabic or something)...Because stuf is cheaper doesnt mean it's worse - I got 6 fillings in Poland for 200euro and I dont think they are worse than the ones you get in Ieland (100euro per filling)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32 pablop

Other thing they have very cheap lingual braces, but when they arent real orthodontists only dentists who do orthodontics, how about getting braces there and then go to another clinic to orthodontists who has expierience, but how much this orthodontist whould take for such a job if its possible of course???

Here is an xray of an implant placed abroad prior to my removing it from patient's mouth (and nose) today. Note the interesting angle and length of the implant. The adjacent tooth has a plastic crown which is 6 months old and hasn't failed yet.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 698 ✭✭✭vishal

i guess that's the all on 4 concept from nobel ;)
he must have run out of different length implants.

how did you remove it georgie, it looks well integrated.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,927 ✭✭✭georgieporgy

It was infected ,painful and loose and the coronal portion was rotated 90degrees. I gripped it firmly with my fingers and gave it a little twist and out it popped. (needless to say I tried to make it look difficult - knee on the chest and all that)

I felt sorry for the patient. a foreign national who had recently gone to their home country to have it done. I don't want to say which country lest someone identifies the pt.

I have seen those implants before, cheapo clones. Well you know what they say "buy cheap and buy twice".

Hi paplop, I'm thinkin the same way as you, They're the cheapest quote I've got too. I found them on localpages.ie where they are under the title orthodontists in Ireland so I presumed they had an orthodontist. Did you find out any more about them? I have an appointment for a consultation on the 17th.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 11 cailin00

Hey fitzgeme, how can you tell if someone is a qualified orthodontist? I don't know how

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32 pablop

I had only one consultation, but I dont know anybody who got braces there...Probably I will go to them because its cheap, and you pay only half of the price of braces rest you can pay monthly in installments.. For me even this half its hard to safe so I wont bother with more expensive clinic and I will have to pray they know what they do and they are good....

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9,535 ✭✭✭btkm8unsl0w5r4

http://www.orthodontics.ie/ every orthodontist in the country is listed there.

Paplop there are two other places I'm also gona go to for a quote cos they do a free consultation and u can also pay monthly installments, I don't think you need to pay that much upfront with them either unless it's invasilgn you want. Let me know if you want details on the other places and I'll private message them to you.

waiting for pm...In 3 weekes I am gonna get rest of my fillings, and then I will have to think where to go and get braces...But I guess even if u can pay somewhere in installments u have to have at least some percentage of full price....I wont go to ratmines coz as I said in pm I had feeling he doesnt know much...Guy from ***mod edit*** sounded professional but prices are high..Btw did u go to ***mod edit**???

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9,535 ✭✭✭btkm8unsl0w5r4

No they don't they have a guy who is a distance learning in orthodontics " He is currently engaged in a masters degree programme in Orthodontics" read it properly and dont fall for the cleverly worded marketing designed to fool you.

Specialist Training Programmes in Orthodontics are 3 year full-time programmes, and somebody engaged in such a programme would not be free to engage in dental practice at the same time.

I suspect that the Masters programme mentioned is the one offered by the University of Warwick in the UK, which is NOT a specialist programme, and the participant will not be an orthodontist at the end of it. It is a distance learning course designed for general dentists with a particular interest in orthodontics, and who want to learn to treat some of the simpler cases themselves in their practices, but does not equip them with specialist-level training or expertise.

You can check if somebody is a properly trained specialist orthodontist by phoning the Dental Council of Ireland (01 6762069)

One of the guy says he has undergone training in damon braces system, so at least he has some knowledge comparing to only dentists who do ortodontics

    Oh well then

Seriously pablop what do you want us to say. Cheap guys are not going to be the best and the best guys are not going to be cheap. Sometimes the guys telling you they are the best are anything but.

WWW.orthodontist.ie thats where you will find a properly qualified orthodontist.

The Damon courses are run by the company that manufactures the Damon braces, Ormco. Attending a course is not the same as orthodontic training.

The courses are just sales pitches, held over a day in very glam locations: Monaco/ Barcelona etc, to get dentists to use the braces. From my experience they advocate almost exclusively non-extraction treatment which is not always possible. A properly trained and registered orthodontist will be able to use their discretion and decide which is the most appropriate treatment, someone who is not a qualified orthodontist will not have the same experience.

The choice of course is yours but it would do no harm to contact the Dental Council as suggested or get a 2nd opinion

    hey all
Totally new to this and I'm so lost! Desperate to get lingual braces and haven't a clue where to start. Looked on the internet and am thinking the Dublin ortho cliic sounds good. So I'm looking for someone who's had lingual barces here and how they found it. And any other advice would be so so much appreaciated. Live in Kildare but work in Dub so could travel a fair bit to see someone.
    Thanks in advance

Hi guys! I went for an extraction in one of the clinic of Ranelagh, I was first quoted 120Euros and after extraction, I was charged 175euros:eek:., when i asked Y? they said that 40euros is for examination and 15euros for X-Ray. I wanted to ask you if is it the same in all surgeries or they had cheated me???please PM me...Thx

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 599 ✭✭✭day dreamer

You should be given the total cost of the treatment up front and if any other expenses arise these should be discussed also.

If it was a routine extraction, i.e. no surgery, stitches etc, 175 seems a lot

when you go to the dentist he needs to examine you to see what is needed. if you walk in to him and say "please pull this tooth" he still has to examine you to confirm it needs to be extracted. An Xray is necessary prior to extraction. Who gave the initial quote? Sometimes people phone around dental offices enquiring the cost of various procedures. So if you asked "how much is an extraction?" the answer would be "120euro".
But if you said " I think I need an extraction and I would like to make an appointment to see the dentist , how much is that?" I expect you would be told the initial exam is 40euro and when the dentist determines what is needed he would provide a quote for it. If you ended up declining treatment you would still have to pay for the exam.

So a total fee of 175 is ok.
