Are we entitled to sack our builder?

We gave a builder a 50% deposit in July change the flat extension to an apex and reslate a 900sq ft single storey house in roscommon where i spend most of the working week farming and sculpting. He started work in September and still has a third to do, the membrane is full of holes and there is water coming in everywhere. Six weeks ago he finished rebuilding the chimney (not for use) and told us he would be finished the following week, four weeks ago he told my wife it would be finished next week. In the last two weeks he has put up one row of tiles and two ridges.
I lost the rag with him on Thursday and demanded he finish the job in a timely and competent manner, he hasn't been seen since.
Are we entitled to get rid of him and what are the financial and legal implications? There is no written contract only a sketchy quoate.
I know it's not easy to come in on a job at this stage but if there is an architect or engineer out there who wants a small job pm me please.

Talk to your solicitor, this really is a legal issue, and since you don't have a contract it is all the more problematic.

I would assume you will be advised to get an independant Architect/AT/Engineer on site to evaluate the works and costs incurred and left to spend, bearing in mind that a new builder will be required to finish off works.

Since this is going to be a legal discussion I will close this thread.
